Yes, It has my Sprint 598U modem in it (via USB.) It routes wireless G to the entire home. The odd part is the BB's are faster using the Sprint wireless G via WiFi than their own AT&T wireless G. I found that odd... But I think AT&T is "overloaded" in the Los Angeles area... Clearly they are faster on the wireless N but that was to be expected.

Here is a link about Cradlepoint and their various 3G routers...

Click where it says "3G routers."

Actually - it says WiFi N but it is using the G. So I said it wrong...

But either way, I can't get the BB's to consistently run on either router - no matter if it is Time Warner through the one (Linksys) or Spint 3G (Cradlepoint) through the other one.

Today - we are doing okay - no drops today.

Ok. I still think it could be a compatibility issue with the phone and router. Like I mentioned before it's not that the BB is using n, it's that routers with n compatibility caused problems for the 8320.

I do not know if later BB models or later OS versions had this issue, but it seems to be one of the few remaining possibilities in your case.

It appears to be so. Like you said, I need to go park myself at Starbucks for an hour and see how it goes. That will tell me a lot...

Thanks for your insight here...

Thanks for the link - good stuff there.

We have done great the last week or so. I started setting up the WiFi during that bad outage RIM had. We just happen to have bought the phones right around that time. So, it's stating to look like the problem was on their end. Because there was "fall out" for days after that outage. I was still receiving old email for like a week. Thus the dropping may have been them working on their stuff.

If we keep rolling smoothly, I think that will be the answer.

Thanks for sharing!

Sandy,

I'm having a similar problem to what you identically described. According to your most recent post, it appears you have the problem solved. I've tried steps similar to what you have done, but it has not solved my problem. What was it you found to "be the answer"?

Thanks,
Ken

I hear yaxxx8230; it can be frustrating. Here is what I did.

On the BB I selected Set up WiFi network and xxx8220;scannedxxx8221; for networks then selected minexxx8230; it asked Perform WPS setup? and I selected yes. The BB then generates a number. Then I logged into the router on the computer and under settings xxx8211; Add WiFi device xxx8211; I added the PIN number generated by the BB. It will connect and the router will tell you when it is successful. Obviously that xxx8220;Add WiFi devicexxx8221; will be in different places depending on your router. (I am sure you have done this already anyway)xxx8230; Also, after the successful connection, while in the router I xxx8220;made reservationsxxx8221; and reserved the BB (it will say Blackberry with part of your pin number) with all my other devices/computers on that router. That reserve option will also would be in different places depending on the router. Make sure you have xxx8220;enable internet connectionxxx8221; for any device reserved on your router as well. Now the router knows the BB.

Of course this didnxxx8217;t worked and it dropped constantlyxxx8230;

Then on the BB under Setup WiFi network I selected Manually add network. It will ask you to type in your Network Name xxx8211; on the next page under the drop down menu I selected Pre Shared Key or PSK xxx8211; and then typed in my key xxx8211; the key that all the devices/computers on the router use. It will then try to connect xxx8211; but mine didnxxx8217;t the first timexxx8230; so I hit the back key and it still didnxxx8217;t but asked me if I wanted to save the network anyway. Say no until it does connect. You may have to walk away and try again later. Like all things in tech xxx8211; you just have to keep pounding on it until I connects. When it does it will say something like xxx8220;This network already exists do you want to replace it?xxx8221; Say yes.

By doing both I got the connection to hold but you have to do the following when going in/out of range or it will drop and not work.

I turn one of my routers off at night (the one the BBxxx8217;s are attached to.) Before I do that I uncheck WiFi on the BB. Then I unplug the router. In the morning I plug the router in and get it rollingxxx8230;. Then, and this is real important, with the BB sitting RIGHT NEXT TO THE ROUTER I check to enable WiFi on the BB. It wonxxx8217;t connect immediately but it will connect. Then I leave the BB sitting next to the router for about 5 minutes. When I walk the BB into the other room or anywhere in the apartment after I do that it will dropxxx8230; but it does come back and then it rolls all day no problem.

Now the same will apply if you leave the home. It doesnxxx8217;t like coming in and out of range. So when you want to leave home uncheck WiFi on the BB and go about your life - when you come backxxx8230; go into the room where the router is (no, not from the garagexxx8230; I have done this xxx8211; it will start dropping again.) In the room with the router check enable WiFi from the BB and let them xxx8220;do their thangxxx8221;xxx8230;leave them together for a few minutes - and you will be good to go.

Sorry if this was long xxx8211; but this is what worked for me. We have 3 BB 9000xxx8217;s and all seem to roll WiFi consistently by doing the above.

I hope this helpsxxx8230;

Sandy

OK - so I've got the phone connected and I can force it to reconnect while in the same room as you described. But then, as I move around the house, it will drop connectivity. I've tried the dedicated IP, I've ensured open NAT, I've even set my phone up for port forwarding on 443, which is apparently the port used by the blackberry services. Still, it'll drop after an hour or so of use. I'll try mario86's recommendation and see if it helps.... *sigh*. Thanks Sandy!

I am sorry, I know the frustration of trying to get something to run that should just "work." I also know that what works for one might not for another.

I have called BB assistance (800) 331-0500 for numerous things and they are very nice. They can help you troubleshoot this for they certainly have more advanced knowledge which you might need at this point. The call is free....

I'll keep my finger crossed for you - that you get it there...

I'm having the exact same problem.. WiFi keeps dropping after a few minutes or an hour, randomly... I just changed the Beacon Interval from 100ms to 50ms and so far it's doing good.

Bold 2 9700 on v5.0.0.405 connecting to a brand new SonicWall SonicPoint-N WAP.

Thanks for posting what worked for you. I found the link below which was helpful because I wasn't sure about changing the beacon - if it would affect other things in a negative way and create another problem I didn't see coming. At this point I don't need to try it, but if I do it made me feel a little better.

Here is the link...

Hi The Sand, Not sure why your worried about the Beacon interval. It shouldn't affect or cause any issues. Now, messing with RTS and Fragmentation Thresholds may affect your performance. Don't try it, didn't help... I also tried disabling "Enable Short Guard Interval" but that didnt work either...

It must be an issue with the phone because I'm having this same problem at all my Wi-Fi locations.

I read if you lower it, it uses up more air time. So, I guess you would have to factor in your data plan for that router? But I haven't read enough about this to know... I always worry about cause and effect. But maybe I am paranoid.

Thanks for sharing that you are having trouble at other network locations with your BB - that is something nobody on this thread knew for sure.

Ihope you get it running steady...

hi Sandy

I made that test in three different places, I changed Beacon interval from 100 to 50 in those 3 routers, and now i can surf without drops...

but i really wanna know if thats normal... i mean, every BB device has the same problem? or just a few like us... i dont get it, because that thing is default 100 on most of the routers i think... i dont think everyone changes their router's beacon interval lol, most of people dont even know how to change router's configuration... what i think is it should work normally with router's default settings, if not whats the point of BB WIFI if you have to set up every router u connect to... and i havent tried hotspots

RIM ppl should know about this!!

Thanks for testing and passing along what worked... And you are cetainly correct - if the beacon intervals default settings are 100 - then it should work on 100. You shouldn't have to change anything. I have other devices and they don't drop.

It looks like they have some work to do on WiFi. You can pass along problems to RIM. Someone passed this link onto to me and I used it to address another problem I was having. That forum is owned by RIM. But be careful - they don't take it well over there if you aren't "thrilled silly" by every feature of your BB.

Once again... thanks for passing along what worked!
