I like the storm keyboard a lot. I changed the settings the second i got it so im not sure what it would be like out of the box though. I had a ENV2 with a full keyboard and i was pretty fast but im getting just about as fast with the storm

I was incredibly fast typing on my Pearl with the SureType keyboard. When I would chat with people on the instant messenger programs or even exchange SMS messages, they'd be shocked at how fast I could type. When I'd be chatting, they'd often ask me if I'm on my computer because I'd be typing so fast. If anyone actually takes the time to learn SureType, you'd be able to type much fast than on a device like the Curve which doesn't have the word prediction abilities of SureType.

That being said, I'm definitely slower on my Storm using the SureType keyboard than on my Pearl. And I'm also making a lot more mistakes. I think it's because I can't keep both my thumbs on the screen as I typing because sometimes the wrong key gets highlighted by the thumb that I'm not about to use. In other words, if I have both my right and left thumbs on the screen and I'm about to click with the right thumbs, sometimes the left thumb will highlight a key and that one will be selected instead of the key that I wanted to click with my right thumb. I also think that having the track ball on the Pearl to select the word from the word prediction popup list also made me a lot faster. Having to select the word from the popup list with my thumb on the Storm is slowing me down. I've gotten better the more I've used it so I'm going to give it a few more weeks and then I'll pass my final judgement.

The only way someone can say they are as fast on the Storm as they were on the Curve is if they were a slow typer on the Curve to begin with. It's a simple matter of physics, really. With the Curve you could have 2 thumbs on 2 different keys at the same time, and you could actually begin to press the next key while the previous key was being released. This can't be done on the Storm. Also is the issue of the keyboard split on the Storm. The device was designed so that your right thumb hit certain keys and your left thumb hit the others. We all know by now that if you cross that line and hit a left-side key with your right thumb, more times than not you won't get the correct letter. I have gotten pretty good on the Storm but I am no where near as fast and accurate as I was on the Curve.

i agree with jjd228. There is really no way that you can be as fast on a storm as you can on another BB or any phone with a full keyboard but you do get used to the button aspect of the storm. After a while it feels ok and you start to get used to it. Although i have issues when typing fast and using words that use the same button 2 times in a row (as, are, type) as i seem to miss the second letter by not letting off the button long enough...

As the title says, can anyone on this forum actually admit that they can type just as fast and accurately on their Storm as compared to other Blackberries?

Thanks.
Its pretty funny that you are so concerned with typing accuracy...and you typed qwerty "qterty" in the title...

You just have to get used to it. Last night I was actually upset that I couldn't type as fast as I could on the 8300 series, and I took out my old 8300 and without turning it on i started typing... My fingers have gotten 10 times as fat since I got the storm (or so it feels, lol). The KB on the Storm is comfortable. I can now walk and type with just one hand, I love it! :D. I did the 2 alternative screen adjustments and I can honestly type very fast now .

I'm not even as close to as fast on the storm I think it's my big hands , my 8703 was reasonably quick but nothing could keep up with the Treo 650 type rate for me.

I carried out software upgrade on Storm and found out once I had that keyboard had changed. When using Storm in upright position I had the keyboard like a conventional mobile keypad with the 3 letters to a key i.e #2 a,b,c but still with predictive text. After the software upgrade when I do a sms in upright position the conventional keyboard of a mobil as described above but it is not in predictive mode. Can this be turned on?

personally I type quicker on my Storm than I did on my enV. and i was pretty fast on that one haha. I love the storm keyboard... landscape is by far the best, and I have my portrait in Multi-Tap mode and I'm pretty quick there as well. (SureType isn't for me)

I can honestly say that I can type faster on my Storm than on my QWERTY.

I have had my storm for about 2 weeks, and I have been using blackberries of different models since the early actual black blackberries. So far I cannot type anywhere near as fast as my past blackberries, but I don't have a need to type quickly. There are so many other great features with the storm, I can live with not typing as quickly.

qwerty as in a full size keyboard? Hmmm... probably not, but I'm pretty darn fast on a keyboard.

What I will say is it type as fast or faster using that trutype thing then most folks do with a full size keyboard.

The one caveat being that I can't do numbers and symbols as fast. Straight text with just periods, I'm up for that Pepsi challenge.
