Default When forwarding, an attchement becomes an image

Please Login to Remove!

I've had a few users who when forwarding an attchement, it turns into an image when opened in the Notes Client. Now I've never been able to reproduce this and there has never been a common factor so am stumped.

Has anyone else ever come across this?

In Jan 2006, I had this issue with my users.

See text from a support incident below:

Hi Debbie

Regarding your message "The attachment on the e-mail below came over as a picture instead of the actual attachment. Please advise. Thanks."

This is currently a known bug with BlackBerry:

If a Blackberry user replies to an email with an attachment the reply just tags an "image" in place of the real attachment... Unfortunately it looks like a real attachment in the email.
If the user forwards the email then it actually includes the full attachment.

In this case it seems that Joseph replied to the email and so the attachment was tagged on as an image (I think the 'logic' is that the sender doesn't need to have the attachment back again - however this is not very helpful in your case!)

This is currently a known issue with ALL enterprise BlackBerry installations (whether they be on notes, exchange, groupwise etc).

Please see update from RIM below: -

xxx8220;This is a previously reported feature request that has already been escalated internally to our development team under the reference SDR20234. No resolution time frame is currently available but it is planned to be included in version 4.1 for BlackBerry Enterprise Server.xxx8221;

When BES 4.1 is available, I will install it and it will resolve this issue. However, for now, please ask Joseph to forward you the original message, and the attachment should come though.

Let me know if this doesn't make sense!

Thanks

Jadey

I might have a quick test and see if this is still the behaviour... then will search RIM

Not sure if the two incidents are the same, issue always seems to have been replying with a file attached as opposed to forwarding.

Just tested on my Domino 7 BES, and if I forward a message on my BB with a word attachment, it works fine. If I reply to the sender, it deletes the attachment and writes

[attachment "GhostPartition.doc" deleted by Jadey/Org]

which at least is more helpful than the duff looks-like-an-attachment-but-is-an-image attachment that used to take place.

Let me know if your issue with your users is specifically with FORWARDING a message, and if so, what file type are they forwarding?
