8% of PC sales is hundreds of millions of machines?

Really. Love to see the math on that. There's an app for that.

http://www.systemshootouts.org/mac_sales.html

Check those numbers out. 2.3 million units sold in 2008.

Oh, and 8% is still hundreds of millions of machines. I'm always amazed at the Microsoft math in assuming Mac's are irrelevant as a customer base for software and other developers.

Regarding the date change, here is the latest. How irritating is this?
Bell Says Desktop Manager for Mac Due Out Tomorrow... Update: Errrr... NOT!!!! | CrackBerry.com
I gotta say I'm with you. This is so fristrating. My guess is that when Snow Leopard came out they had many more bugs then they first thought they would have. I would rather wait and get a DM that works.

Once DM for Mac is released; where will the bigger impact be seen:

1.) increase in iPhone users converting to BlackBerrys since they now "work" on Macs
2.) increase in PC users that convert to a Mac since they now "work" with BlackBerrys

Thoughts?

3. Current Mac users give up PocketMac and/or Windows emulators and rejoice with Desktop Manager

Do you honestly, truly believe that PC users will SWITCH to a Mac because of DM support?

If that was the case, wouldn't Apple work with/pay RIM to develop DM for the Mac?

3) Increase in first time Blackberry buyers who are also MAC users, and iPhone doesn't work for them.

My wife was just that. She was looking to buy a smartphone, liked BB, but was put off by what she saw me going thru in syncing MAC to my BOLD previously. Once she saw DM running on my MAC, she went to the shop and purchased 8900.

Assumption that Apple fans are somehow automatically iPhone users is wrong. Don't mean to start flame war here, but there are many reasons iPhone just doesn't cut it for business people. iPhone is probably the only Apple gadget I didn't feel tempted to buy in a very very long time, and I have something like 5 different ipods and 4 macs at home, and run a company with at least 25 Apple computers.

Not switch just because of that, but for thousands of busy travelers addicted to BlackBerry, MacBookPro is now becoming a viable option, especially with Snow Leopard now supporting Microsoft Server technologies.

Just bought my MacBook Pro 17" 3.06ghz. I was a long time PC guy and I gotta say this is just simply the greatest laptop I have ever owned.

Why? Because the software isn't available? Did RIM every publicly announce that it was going to be available today?

Good point! All the stories were "we hear that September 25 is the day....", but RIM themselves never made an announcement. I think this is a case of all of us buying into the hype and taking the tipsters' stories as gospel.

There's a guy over at Crackberry who says he just took some BlackBerry training (sales position somewhere?) and his rep told him 2 more months.

Sorry, wasn't saying it had to be either, or at all, was thinking between those two which would see bigger numbers.

Yes, you've made your point. RIM doesn't love their customers.

I thought I said "Will RIM ever get it? The world is not just the USA and desktops aren't only Microsoft."

Nowhere did I suggest that Mac buyers caused the stock to fall. I did suggest that ignoring the customers outside the USA or those using systems other than Microsoft might explain something. It's the ignoring customers bit that's important here.
