Default BES New Exchange Server

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone!

BES 4.1.4
EXCHANGE 2003 standard

Old Server: BES Installed MSDE (Retiring Exchange on this Box)
New Server: Ex2003 (Working fine)

We installed a new member server running exchange 2003, I got all the permissions working fine and the MAPI transferred to the new server and BES is working just great.

The new server is now the new exchange server and we need to stop the Exchange services on the old server, this is where the fun starts it looks like. The old server which they installed BES on can still run the BES, but since it also had exchange on it when we want to stop the "Information Store" It also wants to stop 3 BES services with it.

I shouldnt have to move BES to the new server, jsut not sure what to do since I dont work on BES everyday.

Is your Exchange System Manager that you have installed on the BES server pointing to the right exchange server?

Well where BES is installed, it is on the old exchange server, and I have system manager on there of course and both servers are listed in the First adminstrative group. The mailboxes have been moved to the new server and it is the primary server now. I dont know how BES exactly works, because they want to stop the exchange services on the old server, can they not do that?

Just trying to figure out what to do when the BES is on one server and exchange is on the other server.

Would this work, since we want to uninstall exchange on that server, can we just uninstall exchange, then reinstall the system manager?

Stop All BES services and set to manual

Uninstall Exchange

reboot

Reinstall ESM and apply patches / hotfixes to match new Exchange server

Start BES services (and set back to automatic.)
