So 4.5 is out for thee 8800. I have 4.5.0.42 already installed. I installed the update to the BES and then tried the wireless upgrade, it was a no go.

What am I doing wrong?

Wireless upgrade is not possible yet. That functionality was pulled by RIM.

They didn't pull it. It's present if you go to the Users tab at the BlackBerry Domain root (right-click on one of your users). However, since there's no official release of OS 4.5, then there are no upgrades to give... and the carriers are 'fighting' with RIM on how these will be made available.

...as for pushing updates from your LAN, I'm not really sure why that's not working (if it ever will).

Ah... ok. That makes sense, in a RIM sort of way.
I though it was pushed to BES 5.x. Glad there's still hope for 4.1
