Unhappy 8800 Infinite Reboot loop with specific SIM

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, I'm brand new to the world of Blackberry, loving it until now!

Bought it unlocked from eBay (originally AT&T branded), was working great, then I (stupidly?) tried to update the OS on the phone via Desktop Manager to 4.5.0 something (the latest). Now it starts up, red light blinks, hourglass appears for about 3-4 seconds, then screen goes blank, repeat to infinity.

I removed the micro SD card, same problem. I remove the SIM, and the phone boots just fine. Tried a wipe from the Security menu, same problem with the SIM installed. Tried downgrading to the earlier 4.5.0.xx release from DTM, same problem.

The weird thing is, if I put in my other SIM from the same carrier, the phone works fine. The "problem" SIM in the blackberry, also works fine in two other non-RIM phones!! The only difference between the two SIMs as far as I know, is the not-working one has a different service plan, and is pretty full of contacts and SMS junk.

I'm not quite sure what the "BlackBerry Operating System Downloads" page means (new to this..) Should I be using the AT&T image instead of whatever the Desktop Manager wants to install?

Any & all suggestions appreciated greatly.

Thanks,
Skye

Sounds like the SIM is boogered in some way. I don't have a clue why it works in other devices, or what could possibly be done to fix it. But if the device boots up ok without the SIM and otherwise works with other SIM's, then I don't think there is an issue with the device at all.

I would be curious what customer service tells you.

Bizarre, I had the battery out overnight, and just put it back in - the phone booted fine with the "bad" SIM.

What strange behaviour! Oh well, at least it's working now.

Might have been not properly seated before, or dirty contact. I was getting a SIM card error one time on a previous blackberry. I had to fiddle around, did a hard reset once or twice, and probably removed and replaced the SIM three times before I got it working. And never had it happen again. It was strange.
