Frist get this program

Seabyrd Technologies - Blackberry Video Converter

Install 1.13e exe in the post above. It lets you set an input and output folder and default device 8100 or 8800.

I am having luck using this URL to convert Google and YT vids to .flv files.

http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php

In BBVC I am having alot of luck with the 320x180 setting for the custom size.

I didn't think I would like this so much but I have a Three Stooges, 2 Lance Armstrong and Patches the Horse on it so far. Check out Patches

Patches the Horse - Google Video

so funny.

Underskybb could not get any files created by HandBrake to play on her 8800. For him, only PodTube can make compatible mp4 files.

Any way to download video to 8800 with a Mac? Only way you can download anything is OTA.
Any OTA links yet?

Why can't you use Mass Storage Mode with a MAC?

I have posted a beta zip file that includes the default image as well as the 8800 image, the beta help file, and the newest beta 1.13e. Download this, unzip it and put it into the 1.12 install directory (default is C:\Program Files\Seabyrd Technologies\Video Converter) Note that since we are having some trouble with the large and small resolution for the 8800 those have been disabled for right now. You can, however, still choose to maintain aspect ratio or force to full screen.

Get it here: http://bbtech.info/files/Beta_Plus.zip

Check the changelog for new features in 1.13 Seabyrd Technologies - Changelog

Let me know what you think. bb @ seabyrdtech.com

PS - When patches pulled the covers up I thought I might pass out from laughing. Absolutely crazy.

Hey thanks for sharing/posting our finding, but underskybb is NOT a girl.... I am he and he is a man!

By the way, for Mencoder, I got "unsupported format" error after about 10 minutes into an otherwise playable video. (I played a 1 hour 40 minutes video, but it crashed around the 10 minutes mark.) Will work on it more.

There are different aspect ratios; 1.33:1 / 1.78:1 / 1.85:1 / 2.35:1

Each will have different pixel settings on your video presets, each will require different bitrates for the best output...

At 320x180, thats the same as the 1.78:1 ratio, or very close. You'll end up streaching 1.33:1, and squishing 1.85:1, and 2.35:1. do the math for each ratio, and you'll end up with this information.

1.33:1 (4:3) = 240x180 Pixles (Regular TV)
1.78:1 (16x9) = 320x180 Pixels (HD footage)
1.85:1 (Acadamy Flat (Flat)) = 320x173 Pixels (Some Movies)
2.35:1 (Cinimascope) = 320x136 Pixles (Most Movies)

All these ratios will ft nicely onto our screens.

If you adhere to those settings, and keep the bitrate as high as you can, while keeping physical size down to whatever your requirements are you should have very nice movies, that still look right! Remeber, if you want the movies to look great, pump up the bitrates, but a 2-Hour Movie, set to the MAX might take up more than a Gig!

Greetings all you 8800 users. I have posted version 1.13 pre-release of the Blackberry Video Converter to my website
Download it here:
http://www.seabirdtech.com/~programs...aller_1.13.exe

I anticipate release of the full version by end of week. Unless major bugs are uncovered by Thursday I will be releasing this version.

Thanks,
B

Default 8800 Tivo Transfer - TO GO Troubleshooting

I have tried transferring Tivo files to my 8800. The Tivo Desktop Plus software has several "profiles" to convert to. I have used them all, and none of them work really great. Some are choppy (like the mpeg4) , some had audio sync problems (like the treo 650), some had no video and audio only.

Any ideas?

Anyone successfully transfer these videos to their 8800? or 8100?

I have also used the Seabyrd bbvideo 1.13 frontend for the mencoder with similair results. There are segments of video that freeze while the audio continues. Regardless of the input file size, they always end up at 66mb.

Any suggestions appreaciated.

Can you tell me what types of input files are supported? I have a .wmv file that acts like it converts but won't play on my 8800. No error. Just a black screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can supply the .wmv file for testing if needed.

Try a different file. I get that with one movie in particular. All the others work flawlessly. I am getting some problems from people, but it is usually on a single movie. It usually turns out that it is encrypted, but there are some that are not encrypted and still don't work. Don't know why.

In the new version you can turn on debugging options. Can you send those two debug files to me? (there is a problem in the version 1.13.0.6 posted, you will have to close the program and open it up again to get the "open Debug Folder" button to work. The problem was that when you run the mencoder command a string was locking the PATH variable. It has been fixed for the release)

I continue to have playback problems with the Maintain Aspect Ratio setting. The videos pause in the middle but with custom set at 320x180 the playback is smooth.

I produce TV and radio commercials and need to send approval versions to my boss's BB 8800 when he is out of town. I have versions that will play on my BB 8800, but I can't figure out how to send them.

I can successfully email .wav files and they play as an email attachment.

The .mp3 attachment shows up, but won't play.

The .mp4 (video) attachment doesn't even show up, although it will play if I copy it to my media card via my USB connection.

I've also tried using an FTP site and an extranet. I couldn't open the FTP site at all (which didn't surprise me) and I was able to navigate to the spots via the extranet, but couldn't find any "save target as" type of option.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

How big are they? You can't download anything to the Blackberry bigger than 5mb. Your boss will probably have to login to another resource and then transfer them to his blackberry from a computer. You can use any of several online file sharing repositories (quicksharing.com, yousendit) but if these are proprietary or personal I would not use a sharing repository. You will probably have to set up a FTP or FTPS site and let him use that. If using FTP have him login with Filezilla (free) and transfer the files using the Desktop Manager. I have also recently built an application that will transfer files to the blackberry if you don't want him to or he doesn't have the desktop manager on his computer.

Basically, I am assuming that he has a laptop or access to one. If not, he will want to get creative with coffe-shop and internet-cafe access...
