Default 8800 Unlock Question

I recently upgraded my contracted and replaced my 8800 with a red 8310 on o2 and was wondering if I get it my 8800 unlocked 1)Can I send it to my father in law who would use it on AT&T in the U.S and two is there anyway of getting rid of the o2 splash screen?

Yes it can be unlocked for use on any GSM carrier, like AT&T, and no, you can't remove the startup splash screen.

Yes. You can get it unlocked and it should work in the US as long as it has the correct frequency band. I assume the European version has the same frequencies as other BBs. As for the 2nd question concerning the splash, I don't think that can be eliminated.

thanks for the feedback the reason behind the question is I know some carriers (Optus being one example) maintain a database of PIN's and unless you are roaming from another network only those PIN's will work on their network

AT&T allows other carrier-branded GSM devices on their network, but it must be unlocked, of course, as described.
