Default bb curve will not connect to wifi

Please Login to Remove!

In the past after getting on wifi the bb would redirect me to a browser or the security page once I was connected, now it says I am connected but will not redirect me and I cannot actually get on the net and when I check my network options it says not connected. Have been through bb help on phone. No success. Overseas and need net! Help

It may be your carrier deleted the WIFI access if you do not have a blackberry data plan. If you have one, make sure it is working where your at. Call the carrier.

If your using a different SIM for travel it may be the issue if it's not your normal carrier.

Sounds like the BlackBerry is not automatically redirecting to the hotspot login screen. I would open the browser and look for the pre-installed Wi-Fi Hotspot Login bookmark, or similar, depending on OS version.

Thanks. Aiharkness I'm not sure how to find hotspot login bookmark, been paying with options.. Can you help?
On same sim, has worked OS first few days now not at all. Didn't know I would need a data plan.. Would not have got a bb if I realised:( the fact it did before makes me hope I can avoid paying for free wifi

You may or may not need a blackberry data plan for wifi. Depends on the carrier. As wifi was working, I assumed you do not have that limitation. But if that is the issue, then there is no getting around it, at least not that I've read.

To find the wifi login bookmark, if you have it, scroll through the preinstalled browser bookmark folders and look for one labled WiFi Services. It will be a separate folder from BlackBerry Bookmarks..... If you have it.

I selected hotspot browser in browser and in options, still no joy.
Also inserted different sim and no luck
Other ideas? Did I do that correctly?

WiFi requires the proper Service Books.

The Service Books are pushed to the device by the carrier once you have the proper BlackBerry Data Plan.

OK. Just seems crazy to pave to pay for free wifi. I don't know if roaming net or data plan will cost more.
I think I will throw this phone away and get something android that will work. Will recc other ppl not get bb's.

Ok .....

Good luck.

Once you understand how the device works, it's actually quite simple.

But get a device that is easier for you to understand.

Carriers are always looking for ways to make more money. How long before the Android carriers do the same?

It has been pointed out before, but I'll repeat: BlackBerrys are intended to be used with a BlackBerry data plan. The BlackBerry services are the whole point. Like it or not, that's the way it is. And WiFi is not meant to substitute for mobile network data; it is backup, and also faster data when needed and available (as well as UMA for some).

BlackBerrys are different.

Which Curve Model do you have? Please update your profile with the correct model number. there are several, beginning with the 8300 series up to the 9300 series and each is different.

You are mistaken in thinking that having a blackberry means you have to pay for free wifi.

If the wifi service you are using is free it will remain so.

How you access that wifi may be different, either Voda requires you to have a data plan or maybe the free wifi you are trying to access has a poor signal or such like and wont redirect you.

A lot of carriers delete the WIFI service books to prevent access unless you have a Blackberry data plan.

So free yes but the access software must be on the device even a regular smart phone. It wont be long before carriers figure out how to charge for every thing users want and are willing to pay for.
