Default Blackberry not quite in synch

Please Login to Remove!

We are runnign a BES 4.1 and I have a user who says that the device after a while becomes out of synch with his inbox. I think that he is expecting his device to be a mirror of his inbox and this is not happening. Is this a real expectation? I think that installing the Device manager on hos computer and doing a synch might resolve this, does anyone know if this is true?

Also I setup most of the devices that our company gets and the way that I have been configuring them is through the BES and settign an activation password then entering the email and activation password on the device and let it wirelessly synch up. I understand that it will only bring over the last 5 days (by default) but is there anyway to get those older emails onto the device after this initial synch has occured.

Hmm, are you running Exchange? By default our Blackberry devices will sync up to 30 days of emails. This is a setting you can change.

Yes we are running Exchange. I read seome where that the max you can set this to is 14. The setting that I am setting is Messaging Prepopulation and it will not go higher than 14 days.

You should be able to go into the users mailbox on the deive, and then go to "General Options". All the way at the bottom, its the option "Keep Messages". Mine is defaulted at 30 days.

the BB only stores emails for 30 days? I did not know that but thanks.

I may not have been clear about what I was looking at getting done. I am setting up a new BB for a user and their inbox has some emails that are a little old, say 60 days, but when I am going through the enterprise activation it is only pulling the last 14 days. Is there any way to get all the emails from the inbox on the device when i first set it up?

That's weird. Sorry I am not sure why it would do that. I would assume it would grab the last 30 days of emails, but i may be wrong.

Pre-population, the transfer of emails to a new BB, is limited to a maximum of 14 days or 750 messages whichever is reached first.

Once the BB has been in use then the 30 day rolling function comes into play, or whatever setting is set on the BB.

Is there any reason to use the Desktop manager if you are using a BB with a BES? If messages do get out of sync will that sync it bak up?

I have had users use the desktop mangler to sync old messages after an enterprise activation and it has worked fine. But I have one user that this is not working on.....any ideas?

Love the use of mangler there, it goes with my policy of not giving them the software in the first place. All my users get is the BB, the holster and the charger.

I know the software is downloadable and the USB cable is standard on many things but given the calibre of my users it's not going to happen. They treat their BBs like the toaster, it works I don't want anything more.
