I was having the same problem with lots of dropped calls on 180. I rolled back to 171 and no more dropped calls. I also called Tmo and got to the H@H folks and talked to them awhile and got a ticket opened with their advance engineering group to take a look at the whole dropped call issue with the new software. If I get anything back on this I will let you guys know...

I looked at what is downloaded on my phone and it went through and just to be sure, I re-downloaded the OS. It is the first time this happened, but has not happened since I posted this.

I had the same thing happen to me, so far when I contacted CS, they said try to use just a WiFi connection and turn the network off (mangage connection>network off). this seems to work well, but if I don't plan on being in a stationary WiFi location, this sucks. Not a real solution at all.

Default What a poor fix...

I have resorted to doing as your CS person said to keep the calls from dropping. This is a poor way to fix an issue that is clearly a technology issue with the phone and the service. I have not heard anything from Tmo on the open ticket I have with them so still using this crazy fix of turning off the Edge network when I get home to ensure no transition issues.

For this upgrade should I be using Blackberry Desktop 4.2 Service Pack 2 from RIM website or Blackberry desktop 4.2.2.14 from T-mobiles website? Which desktop manager is most recent?

Friend of mine updated to .180 and he consistently gets dropped calls on UMA now as well. It is pretty intermittent but he doesn't use bluetooth and is within spitting distance of the AP when it happens.

I've had pretty good luck so far with .180 but it seems there are gremlins hiding out in the depths of this update.

So, let's get started. Connection to a wireless router/AP but no UMA often indicates you restored your device using a backup file from another non-Curve Blackberry device wiping out the UMA certificates on the device. Let's check for them:

Go to Options -> Security Options -> Certificates

Scroll down to the T-section and look for T-Mobile USA, Inc. Engineering and Operations and T-Mobile USA, Inc. Root CA.

If those are missing that is why UMA is not working. It's simple (usually) to restore them. You have two options, an easy way and a not-so-easy way. Post back if you have them or not and we'll go on from there.

Dave

I totally have this problem They are missing in my bb... Can I get some help with it? Is that why I'm getting SOO many dropped calls? I'm new to bb and have an unlocked at&t curve that I use with a tmobile plan.

Thanks!!

Did all these people update to the .180 OS or are those who are using the 8320 still on the original OS?

I didn't find this "HotSpot@Home (WMA) not working option...
All I get is help directory, whats hot, fun & games, owner lounge, great sites, mesaging, maps and GPS and blackberry about....

P.S: I have an 8300 btw not a 8320. I dunno if it makes a difference

Actually, the at&t curve has no wifi so you can't have this problem. Even if you have the at&t 8820 that does have wifi will not get UMA.

What exactly is the problem you are having?

I have disconnect problems with .180 as well. Actually it has rebooted once and then seemed like it turned off 2 other times since it went black then came back, but took a while to get up and running again. Wasn't just dropped calls. Also wasn't all on the same router. One call was not at my house.

I'm going to try re-loading the software. If that doesn't help, I'm thinking of downgrading to .175.

Edit: I tried a device wipe first and that may have fixed my problems. So far a 15 minute call using a bluetooth headset and WPA2 security and no problems. WPA2 barely connected calls before, while WEP was at least usable other than the times the phone did the turn-off thing.

The CS rep informed me it maybe a router issue as well, but I explained to him that this can't be the case because I never had an issue (while reading the countless threads of people that had UMA issues). I download the new OS and than the phone acts up, I redownload the OS (.180), I do a battery pull, I have T-Mo send me the service books (the rep did it once and I did again afterwards) and I still have the issue. Last night it happened again, about the same time frame (15-20 minute phone call conversation) and than I used the phone again (mind you network turned off throughout this time) and it lasted the 32 minute conversation.

At the moment I am just logging where (how far away from router) and when (time frame) it happens to be able to call the T-Mo reps and give them an exact idea of what I am experiencing.

Other "informed" blackberry users have told me they had problems with 180 and rolled back to 175. I haven't had too much trouble at this point so I haven't gone back to 175 yet.

When you do a blackberry OS upgrade, does desktop manager erase the old OS and install the new one? Or is it an upgrade where it just updates the old OS?

The process is as follows:

Backs up your data.

Wipes the old OS

Installs the new OS

Reinstalls any 3rd party apps you had installed (though some data in them may be lost)

Restores your data and settings

When it's done you should have everything you had before short of some data in 3rd party applications. It's not just an upgrade of the existing software though the end result is just that. It's really a wipe and reinstall.
