Smile 4INFO v 1.2 Released

Please Login to Remove!

Taken from BB Cool:

<quote>

4INFO has just gone live with version 1.2 of their 4INFO Mobile app for BlackBerry.

4INFO Mobile is similar in a lot of ways to Handmark’s Pocket Express, in that it provides you with up-to-date news, sports, weather and movie information, as well as cool things like driving directions and a daily horoscope. Best of all, it’s free! To check out the app, point your BlackBerry Browser to:

wap.4info.net/client

</quote>

While there are other similar applications, I do like the ease of getting information like sport scores through their web page (4info.net)

It isn’t compatible for the 7100i users.

Did you go to their website and register your name and password? If not, do so.

Downloaded it last night and from how little I've used it I like it, a pleasant amount of features. Definitely something that will get used in the future.

Just got it for 7100g, even though its not tested yet, but when in doubt, do it anyway. (I know, I am a Beta test junkie, just shut up and gimmie some unreleased apps. *twitch twitch*)

Ok, just finished running it through the wringer, works great! A few redundant features, a few other progs I have do the same jobs, but not all in one package. Don't get rid of all your proggies yet kiddos. Other apps still have features that 4info hasn't. Still, you can't best the best feature 4info has, price.

Hey guys

Allow myself to introduce....myself. My name is Lee McArthur, and I am the product manager responsible for building our mobile applications for J2ME, Palm, and of course, blackberry.

We are just coming out of the startingblocks with this application, and have many plans for more applications targeted to niche users: think fantasy sports application, entertainment, etc.

We have strong partnerships with Gannett/USA TODAY, TV-Guide, and numerous sports and finance content organisations with buckets full of live, really valuable content that I know I would love to have on my 8700!

So, there it is, a brief welcome message from me. I am looking forward to contributing to the forum, and getting feedback from everyone about our current application, and more importantly, input into the roadmap of products I intend to have built for the blackberry community over the next 12 months.

Its good to be here!

Lee

Hey Adam

We use the username and password, required only once after installation to:

1) Uniquely identify yourself, and your saved content (fantasy sports roster, stock portfolio, etc.)

2) Make it easier to bring that info with you when/if you upgrade this application, or install new applications from 4INFO.

Currently, the integration through "My 4INFO" on the web is a weak one. The plan is to allow you to completley customize this application from the web, even going as far as adding your own content to the app. through content syndication etc.

Hope this clears this up a bit.

Lee

Hi there. I have an update for you for your 7100i.

Our past approach, as seen through our website, has to not allow users to even *try* and use our application if we haven't done any testing on it.

We have launched a new WAP driven download process that, when it detects a device we haven't tested, still allows you to download the correct build for your device.

I just ran a test on the 7100i emulator, and the application *appears* to work just fine.

To download the client OTA, goto:

wap.4info.net in your blackberry browser.

and choose "Client download". When it takes you to a page listing manufactures to download by manufacturer type, choose the "Blackberry (72XX, 87XX) link." That link is being changed to just say Blackberry in the next release.

It should work for you. Let me know!

Lee

Hi Cling.

Are you entering the username and pass on the device? Is this one you submitted via our web-driven download process? If so, try and choose "New user" instead of current user, and register a new userid/pass combo.

I have an 8700c, and it works.

Hey Adperdue,

Thanks for the feedback. It all really helps. If you have some time, could u send me a post that indicates the things u find redundant, and also, let me know what functions we don't do, or do well enough, to make u comfortable enough to use this as your "goto" app for live content.

Thanks again,

Lee

Am working on a more in depth review, hope to have it up by Thursday. A little sneak peek for ya, I have found only one annoying thing, one feature could be a little more robust, and what could be called a bug, although only loosely, but so far a great app. I will go through all the features and kinks in the review one at a time. Look for it in BBF reviews Thursday morning. 4info, keep it up, As far as I am concerned you got a winner on your hands.

I am having problems with this as well. When I enter my name and password, says I am not in an area where I have internet service (or something like that) .

1. Make sure you have a data plan.

2. Make sure your phone is set up to use the network properly. Search the forums to find out how to do this.

3. Make sure your program permissions allow the program to access the network. Again the search button is your friend.

Hope this helps.
