Unhappy 8900 - crashes when updating a restore - 507

Please Login to Remove!

Being a miser I wait until my daughter updates her BlackBerry and get her last one. Upgrading from an 8700 to 8900 using Desktop Manager 5.01 the process halted when writing (O2 software) to the new device - error message tells me it couldn't communicate with the device. I've searched the BB website for any advise but all the resolutions offered don't cover what to do when they fail! Can't find a similar thread on this forum either. I've now been trying to solve this for two-days solid and my poor grey hair is starting to fall out...

Make sure you are plugged directly into the PC or laptop and not using a USB hub. Preferably the BB should be plugged directly into the back of the PC.

Thanks - I couldn't get my head round that - isn't the loader app part of the desktop manager? If not - where can I find it?

Look in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

You can also search your c: hard drive for loader.exe

Loader.exe is a stand alone app. Commonly found in:

"c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader" << 7 or vista

"c:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader" << XP or 2000

Actually the x86 is only for 64 bit operating systems.

I'm getting there - I've now found the loader file and have run it - it doesn't seem to see the application software - that I have now uninstalled and re-installed - when re-installing the installation package ended with the option to open the Application Loader - I did this yet it still didn't find the software! All the option boxes etc are greyed out so there is no obvious way of going to look for it and where will it be anyway?
And to think, 286's and 386's were so easy...
