231 Issues with UMA
Please Login to Remove!
I'm having an issue with the .231 OS in that first, it seems to have a harder time connecting to UMA than before (when I had .114), and second, frequently when I'm on a UMA call, I've been disconnected with the "Call Failed" message and it seems to happen concurrently with losing UMA connectivity (whereas under .114 it seemed able to go back and forwards in and out of UMA without difficulty without dropping a call). I've rebooted the BB and the wifi router but it's been really bad today. Anyone else having this issue? Could it be a local (Los Angeles) TMO issue? Would like to hear before I give up and go back to .114.
Thanks

Have you tried different routers?

I just think thats an issue with uma and edge handoff I dont think they got it right but my router doesnt hand off from edge to uma either. I think its something they still need to work on. I have a D-Link DIR 655, its not a cheap router and fully supports wifi protected setup, it just doesnt hand off like it should :/.

Out of curiosity, why does everyone call it a UMA to EDGE handoff??
last time i checked, EDGE/edge is for data and GSM is the voice..... no?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. Everything was fine until I "upgraded" to .231 - I had no problems getting into UMA before, with .114, it was very stable and I had no problem with calls dropping. My question is whether others have encountered similar issues with .231. If all I am getting with the upgrade is supposedly better battery life but I'm losing my UMA capability, it's a no-brainer to go back to 114.

I use an Airport Express for my handhelds and other mobile devices and UMA is actually more solid on .231 than it ever was with .114
I was constantly having to kill wi-fi and bring it back up to reestablish my UMA connection. I haven't had a single issue since the upgrade. Of course, that's just me. It could be an issue with your router or some configuration anomaly.

Thanks. Mine is up and down like a yoyo. It's obviously very user-specific. I'll give it a couple more days before reverting to 114.

so far with .231, I have had a great experience with UMA. I was on UMA last night and didn't even know.. when I had .114 I typically would disable Wi-Fi prior to calls so I didn't drop.
I would suggest checking with T-Mobile tech support, it may be a local issue

Thanks for the response. Problem seems resolved for now. Maybe it was a temporary TMO problem, maybe rebooting BB and router a few times got each of them to a more stable state.

I have 2 8900's. Both at 231. One yo-yo's, one doesn't. Same home. Same setup.

I seem to only have the problem when I use Mobile/WiFi/Bluetooth radios all at once. If i'm on a Bluetooth call, I usually just turn the WiFi off so I don't drop the call.

I do find that it logs into UMA faster when the mobile radio is off. But then if I lose UMA while on a call I'm definitely going to get cut off, whereas it's only a maybe if the mobile radio is on.

Cant get UMA on wifi
I have just "upgraded!" to the 8900 from my trusty 8320 and now although the 8900 connects with my wifi linksys 54G router, I am not getting internet access through it. The phone display just stays at GPRS. if I turn the radio off and the wifi on, then try to connect through the hotspot browser, I get a message saying "please ensure your device has an active wifi connection" and then after requesting says "unable to find the requested server" Same result if I try the vodafone live browser, unless i turn the radio back on to GPRS.
Is there some other setting that I need to change to get the new phone connecting the same way as the old one did?
Any help greatly appreciated!

Had the same problem after going to 231. Rebooted router and BB; seems to be working fine now. Tmo support suggested calling back asking for the BB wireless support department if it continues to be an issue.
