Have an 8900 and used a friends Bold (with good 3G coverage) side by side. Bold was always a couple seconds faster then the 8900 downloading pages on the browser. That said it seemed HUGE compared to my 8900.

I also debated whether to get the Jav or the Bold. While I surf a decent amount, most of what I'm doing is visiting sites that are already optimized for the web. I've never thought to myself "Boy I wish this page would load faster", so that made it easy to forego 3G. I don't do any video streaming or anything like that either. For me the form factor and what I had heard about battery life (being better on EDGE) won out. I really like the device, and I can't imagine you'd be unhappy with it (though YMMV).

Hey guys, the cool thing I found out about having wifi on the 8900 is that you can receive emails while on a call (as long as you're connected to a wireless network). It works great in the office and home office. Thought I'd share, the previous poster may have had their wifi on, hence the confusion.

If anything I was confusing my personal blackberry 8310 (no wifi) with the 3G blackberry from work. In the end, I was wrong.

Trimix - I have searched high and low for a reasonable source for the "data pipelines" comment, but have found none. I did ask a rep at a store and he said it's true, but that doesn't mean much to me. Of course I was also repeating what I have heard in other forum entries as well. So I have no proof of either hardware or software channels, pipelines, or timeslots. I do know that I watched a 8900 beat out a 9000 to load Engadget (full site). Both were way faster than my 8310. I will continue looking for reasonable documentation for this and will obviously post if I find anything.
