do you have a BB data plan? if you DO NOT then you will not see it turn black and white it will always be white and grey...
are you able to browse on the internet when connected with wifi?
some more info is needed to help you out...
near where the providers name is, does it say your home networks names as well, like mine will be like this:
Rogers - CCG Burning
are you getting anything like that?
are you able to connect to any wireless networks? like at work or a friends house, anywhere?
let us know those answer and we may be able to help a little better

The WiFi logo does not indicate that you are connected to WiFi. The WiFi logo indicates that you are connected to BlackBerry data services through WiFi. If you see a WiFi hotspot name next to the carrier name, then that indicates that you are connected to WiFi.

So just to be clear if I see my WiFi name next to carrier's name then it means that I am connected through WiFi? When I go to Manage connections I see the WiFi name but there is no check mark in the right ... That means anything? And now that I am in explorer I see only the GPRS sign. If I am connected through Wifi will it show any different sign?

Try this:
1. On the Home screen or in the application list, click Manage Connections.
2. Click Services Status.
You will see a page or two of information detailing your connection, and it should be displayed in this order:
- Mobile Voice
- BlackBerry Internet Service
- BlackBerry Enterprise Server
- Mobile Network
- Mobile Network Provider
- Wi-Fi Network
--- Active Profile
--- SSID
--- Type
- Bluetooth
What does BlackBerry Internet Service say? What does WiFi Network say?

You are not connected to BIS through WiFi. So, it appears that you are connected to WiFi, but not to the BlackBerry data services. If I understand how this works correctly, you won't be browsing the internet via WiFi because all data is pushed through RIM, and without the data services connection through WiFi, your phone will fall back on cell service for that connection.
I never understood why the phones allow for a WiFi connection if it can't connect to the BIS/BES data services. Seems pointless to even consider a connection to WiFi without the data.

no he can get onto the internet without the BB data plan, people do it all the time, all you need to do is make sure you are on the hotspot browser.... open browser, menu, options, browser config, top make sure it says hotspot browser... surf away...
but the issue now i think is why he can FULLY connect on the wifi... what is the security setting on your router? WEP? or what? also it is a B/G type router yes?

I just managed to connect with another open avalaible WiFi and I see in Bes and bis and wifi the wifi name connection. I can still see again in home screen my provider name and the wifi name but on connection manager this time I have the checkmark on wifi connection. So I guess it is my wifi problem? I am sure of the correct key to connect. What should I do?

yea its an issue with your router for sure, if you can connect fine on another one and get that check mark then your wifi is working properly on the phone... so now its an issue with your router and the settings as to why its not letting you connect...
go into option, wifi, delete your router/home wireless, battery pull, reboot, scan for new network, try adding your wireless again...
if that doesnt work, then go into your router settings, make it an open connection (no password) and see if it connects fully then, if it does then change your password encryption on the router to WEP instead of WPA and see if that helps
