Without warning the phone will turn off then turn back on. I am able to get to the desktop on my BB for about 4 minutes. I tried Options > Security > General > Wipe on the phone and it begins the process and not until the very end will it turn off, and start back up. It restarts at the same point every time.

Here is another example and possible problem. I ran the Desktop Manager and tried running the Application Loader to see if maybe I needed an update. I connected my BB 8800 to my computer, direct connect, not hub, and took the battery out. All that shows on the screen is a faded-white background with a battery half-charged, crossed-out with a red line. So with my BB connected, It recognized my pin and I ran the App Loader on the DM and this is what happens as soon as I hit next to check for updates. The red light comes on and the phone turns off while still plugged into the computer via usb. After I exit the App Loader, the phone connects back and the faded-white, red crossed out battery screen again. The same thing happens every time I run the App Loader.

So after that, I tried Wiping the OS myself and reinstalling it. I Dl'd the OS and the JM_Cmder on to my computer and ran JM_Cmder with the battery in, and out and this is what I get.

Currently Just Did This ----------

When I run JM_Cmder with the battery in and run the "wipe" function. As soon as I typed in blackberry and hit enter, the screen shut down and restarted with a little window box in the middle of the screen encased in a circle crossed out with a thin line and the number 507 shows under the circle. Inside the window is three shapes; a Circle, Square, and a Triangle. This is now all I see when I turn on the blackberry.

If anyone has any information, please share !

Note * I can no longer get to the BB 8800 Desktop.

ok where you are right now is a good thing, you do not have an OS on the device now just run the OS software and it will load everything back up

Welcome to the forums!

507 is a good thing compared to what you had before! 507 means no OS on the device. All you need to do is reinstall the OS.

If you have the OS installed to your PC then just run Desktop Manager and run Application Loader to reinstall the OS.

Heeeeellll yeeeeeh.

I was tinkering around with it and i reinstalled the OS back on by mistake.
It doesnt restart spastically like before.

Now let me ask you guys a question. This phone is a cingular phone. I am planning on unlocking it in the next hour, and I was wondering, if I were to use this phone for T-Mobile's My Favs plan, would I, could I reinstall the tmobile version of the blackberry 8800 software instead of the cingular version?

Regards, Matthew.

So if I upload the T-Mobile OS on this Cingular phone, will it give me the My Favs option?

----

Should I be able to access at least my BB desktop without the battery in but plugged into an outlet?
All that shows on my screen without the battery in is a battery with a cross-out through it.

Can someone please give me the BB 8800 T-mobile OS link?

Thanks again, Matt

-------------------------------------------

Dang it, I wiped my phone out with jm_cmder and my phone starts up to the 507 Non-Smoking Sign error.

My phone constantly restarts and starts back up every 2 minutes... What do I do?

I wiped the OS off of it already, so it shouldnt be a software issue.

How do I get my computer to recognize my BB? It doesnt auto show up when I plug it in,

Much Love, Matt

OK let me get all the facts here this is a Tmobile device right?
But you loaded cingular OS?
The favs thing should be a service book thing not OS for instance most of the sprint users are using the 4.2 from verizon but their phones still show sprint splash screen on start up.

As far as the restarts you may have a bad device

The MicroSd Card was the cause of the restarts.
That is no longer my issue.

As for the OS, this is a cingular phone that is now unlocked to work on tmobile for me. I want to use T-mobile's My Favs function but I dont know how.

Anyone?

If the device is an AT&T branded device then the myfaves app will not load to it by default. You can still use it on TMo with myfaves, however. Additionally, if you want the myfaves app then you need to edit the blackberry.alx file so that the myfaves .cod's are loaded. This post should help with editing the blackberry.alx file.

How to Add Vendor Locked Themes - BlackBerryFAQ

It makes no difference what OS is loaded to the device. If you load a TMo OS it still won't load the TMo themes and myfaves app to an AT&T branded device without modifying the .alx. What gets loaded to the device is based on the vendor code hard coded to the device. A TMobile device has a vendor code of 100. So the blackberry.alx file tells Desktop manager to load apps for TMobile based on the vendor code it reads from the device. If it reads 102 from the device (AT&T) then it loads themes and software for an AT&T device.

So should I edit this line to access my favs:

<fileset Colour="True" Java="1.0" series="8800" _vendorID="102">

Should I change it to 100 or remove the _vendorID="102" completely?

What other options/themes can I unlocked in the blackberry.alx file?

----------------

I removed the _vendorID="102" and tried to run the App Loader on the Desktop Manager and it says:
"The blackberry desktop software does not have the blackberry device software for the device you have connected to the computer. Please contact your wireless service provider.

---

more tinkering = progress

i fixed what i needed to. thanks.

Default Thanks!

You are a life saver. I had the JVM error 102 that people keep talking about, and your program allowed me to wipe the blackberry. I lost some stuff, but at least I can get it to work now. Thanks again!

Dont take the battery out. You should only be doing that in specific situations.

Leave the battery in and move on to Wipe the Device section.

He did just that, and got it working.

Should we adjust the FAQ section instructional about that, or is that just an oddity?

Exclamation can't seem to reset

My rogers 8700r has been plagued with the rolling time-glass, have tried the factory reset and wipe...I don't know if it's because I'm running on Vista...or the blackberry is just toast...any ideas???
