Default 9700 Without a Camera??

Please Login to Remove!

I might be taking a position where I'd have to lose my blackberry completely due to the camera.

Any intel known about RIM releasing a 9700 sans camera?

The only Blackberry that I know that doesn't have a camera is the 9630 available online with Verizon.

Wirelessly posted (Bold 9700 (AT&T))

I saw that, and it *is* a world phone. Does anyone know if I can get an unlocked version and use my AT&T SIM in it?

Would that give me 3G on AT&T?

Would that give me simultaneous talk / data?

No. Verizon does not use sim cards, instead is CDMA. Unlocking a verizon phone and putting in a GSM sim card (like AT&T) will not work.

That was my thought originally, but the specs of the phone, even on verizon's site say, GSM + Edge + 3G Support in addition to all the CDMA stuff.

I know that at&t either has or will have a non-camera Bold 9000 very soon. Last I checked it was on their premier website?

This is completely wrong.

This device as well as the Storm can be used on GSM frequencies inside and outside of America. The 8830 can do the same outside of America.

It will work with your AT&T SIM card, but you will not get AT&T's 3G coverage, just EDGE.

To be honest, the reason I'd be looking for a 9630 over a Bold is because of the internal camera. The 9630 is comparable in specs to the Bold 2. Ideally, I'd like to just stay with the Bold 2, if they will offer a no-camera version.

i have a family member that has a sensitive job that doesnt let you use the camera either so the BES Admin put a policy on his Bold 2 that the camera can not be used. Maybe they can do the same for you if you're on the company BES.

Yea,

I'm a BES Admin at my company now, and I use this policy.

I'd be taking a position for the Government, and it would be my personal blackberry, I doubt they'd put me on their BES just to limit the camera functionality.

That's a very true point, and what's worse, is there is still an extremely viable market for non-camera smartphones... The government, just to name one. I mean, the 9630 is a nice unit, and it does come without a camera, but I'd have to leave AT&T and break my contract eventually.

The Bold II 9700 is just such a nice piece of equipment, I don't want to be forced to leave it behind...

Are you listening RIM??? Bold 9700 without a camera!!!!

Can you not just delete the camera module? If there is such thing.. I know you can "NOT INSTALL" the phone module and the phone function is disabled.

Yes, I believe that is possible, however, that's probably not enough to appease the security staff.

I don't get you.. What's the reason you don't want the camera anymore?
What's the problem with having a camera? :o

Some businesses/government installations ban phones with cameras. Not that uncommon.

A lot of companys are starting to restrict camera phones. Most workout centers are also moving to restrictions. Implications of harrasment, security and improper photos are causing problems.
BerkayB by the time your out of school you may find no company will allow them.

I just ordered this: Blackberry Bold 9700 empty middle plate covers without camera hole ( Black) :: Housing/Faceplate/Cover :: 9700/9020 Onyx :: Blackberry :: Housing / Faceplates :: Truesupplier - Blackberry Accessories & PDA Accessories wholesale Co.

Hopefully it won't be too much of a pain in the ass to change.

It turns out this is a naked midplate. There are a lot of connections that need to be switched from the old plate to the new one and it looks like they are all pressed or glued in. Now I'm back to searching for another solution.
