My BBM contacts got erased when i added the new download to it.
Do you think the BBM contacts are in the stored backups from beforehand?

Yes you will find your bbm contacts in the backup under BlackBerry Messenger

the backup isnt on my phone.. i was wondering if when i do full backups i can get my blackberry contact list from that?

Thanks for your help. I actualyl went through Desktop manager, then clicked on Advanced, and then plugged in my phone, clicked on the Blackberry Messenger file and added it over to my phone and all my contacts were back up :D

My daughter just upgraded her BBM from 5.0.0.33 to the newer 5.0.0.57. After the download her BBM disappeared. She is reinstalling it as I type. Does BBM 5.0 have a way of recovering the contacts? I thought it did that in some way. Unfortunately she does not have a recent back up on the pc to reinstall her contacts from. Any help would be appreciated as always.
