Just updated my UK STORM to 4.7.0.78 from Vodafone DE site - great improvement - waiting to see if battery life improves - just have patience doing the upgrade - it takes around 30 mins and can seem to freeze - but it has not - so sit back and then enjoy the benefits.

Hi Guys,

I've tried to install this several times but after I connect the Storm to my laptop via the USB cable (it confirms connection), launch loader.exe and select "detect communication port" the software runs through each of the 5 COM ports listed looking for the device but always fails to find it and the loader terminates. No one else seems to have had this problem. Am I missing something really obvious?

Regards,

Ben

Ben, make sure you are connecting your USB to a powered USB port. Try another one on the laptop, not a hub.

Hi JSanders,

I've tried all four USB ports and no luck. I've checked that the Storm is being charged on each.

When I connect it my laptop sees it as two seperrate drives (G:\ and H:\) which I guess are the internal storage on the device and the 8GB micro SD card.

Can anyone else think what I can be doing wrong?

Default Screen not dimming when in landscape

So I installed:

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.7.0.111 (EFIGS_Dutch)
Package Version: 4.7.0.111
Consisting of:
* Applications: 4.7.0.78
* Software Platform: 4.0.0.98
* File name: 9500_omadrmEFIGS_Dutch_PBr4.7.0_rel111_PL4.0.0.98_ A4.7.0.78_Vodafone_Australia.exe
* File size: 103.55MB

And now the screen no longer dims when in the device is in landscape orientation. It will be dim in portrait, and when I turn the 9500 onto its side the display changes AND the screen gets brighter, then will not dim again.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Cheers, Nick

Go and delete all the device drivers for the device and start from scratch

Or restore from a previouse point on your computer and install desktop then plug phone in.

I had some trouble sometimes I would plug the phone in and the desktop manager would not detect it, but a simple pull and plug back in worked.

good luck

Why would it get dim to begin with?
Mine never dims unless I stop using it and the screen brightness goes down then off.

The screen dims due to the auto dim (Automatically Dim Backlight, in Options > Screen/Keyboard) feature and it is handy when in low light. I thought it was limited to the new software but it could have been there with the original.

I have found the screen does dim in landscape mode, but rarely and not consistently, and it always brightens when being tilted over.

After this update my BB browser is gone and I only have the vodafone WAP 2.0 browser left.
When I try to open web page mobile.blackberry.com on my BB 9500, It can not open the page correctly because of the missing BB browser.
Anyone with same problem or solution?

Hi!

This is my first post. I want to say thanks for this forum.

I have already installed the new software version for my Blackberry Storm. I used the virtual machine designed to Mac OS called Parallel Descktop 4.0 and it has work perfectly. If you are a Mac user this is interesting because Blackberry Descktop Software doesn´t work with the latest version of Leopard by iMac.

New version improves important aspect like acelerometer, introducing text, photo scroll...

Thanks for that...

It depends if you are using BIS or BES.

If you are using BES, you have to activate de Blackberry Enterprise Server again using a password, if your enterprise has given you, or connecting the blackberry to your intranet, the activation will be automatic. If after of that doesnt appears the browser icon I dont know what can you do.

If you are using BIS, you have to restart your blackberry and activate the blackberry service again with your network, you can do it checking yor email configuration or getting your battery out, the browser icon will come back.

GabiMad,

Thank you for your reply!
I checked with vodafone and they forgot to activate my BIS abo, so after the update I only had the vodafone browser left. After the activation, I rebooted the storm and it´s all good now! The browser is back and I'm able to recieve email etc.

Acording to my phone's "About" I have:

"v4.7.0.78 (Platform 4.0.0.98)"

Should I upgrade as per your instructions?

Umm.. for all you people Getting touchy about 9500 and NOT the 9530 (verizon). You are wrong. I just put it on both mine and brothers 9530 and it worked flawlessly. SO everyone with Verizon, feel free to jump on the bandwagon and ignore the ignorant naysayers
