Well, that's where Cisco and Avaya are pricing theirs. Are you suggesting no consumers will buy it for $1000.

P.S. The 64gb iPad with 3G retails for $829.. I guess no one will buy that either...

The PlayBook will not be more than 650! I'll put money on that.

500-600 seems right.

I am going to have to better understand what this PlayBook will really do. Because right now there is no way I spend more than $500. And even at $500 I still get the iPad.

Playbook will enhance your current BlackBerry device that is on OS 5 or higher.
Emails, BBM, book marks, and possibly more when more info is released.

An iPad is a secondary device that does not enhance an iPhone.

Non 3G? What purpose would it serve? I bought my iPad 3G, basically since I'm not good at cloud2 technology, the 3G Internet is the main thing I use my iPad for. It is a lightweight Internet browser. And iPad with 3G increased the price significantly, I cannot see the point of a black pad being expensive without Internet?

It will tether to your BlackBerry device out of the box. Why would you need a second dataplan for it if it tethers to your current device?

Battery life on your primary communication device will certainly be negatively effected by tethering to the Blackpad.

I would not mind if the battery on my iPad pooped out during a business trip from too much use. However, if my phone died or had to be continually recharged (like my 8700 did) I would be tweaked.

Well the wife and I are headed to Europe soon and we needed something for traveling so we went with the iPad, great device. May still get a Playbook awhile after they come out, we'll see.

Making the device $1000 would be a disadvantage. BB would have to put a price that would compete with the iPad and other upcoming tablet devices.

You mean the $1000 Cisco Cius and the $3400 Avaya Aura devices, right?

I am assuming you are referring to the Avala Flare as the device. Really kinda Apples and Oranges comparison, unless the playbook being sold as a prosumer device is a great head fake. The Aura looks to be part of a integrated desktop communications system. The fact that it is built on Android does not mean that it an the Playbook are competitors.

The Cius is kind of the same. It is part of a communications architecture and a point solution device.

All of the marketing to date leads to the Playbook being a prosumer device. A good enough ipad that lets me get my BB info on a bigger screen through a portal without sacrificing security. A VPN and Lotus webmail or Exchange equivalent on a decent netbook/ipad browser do the same.

What probably will determine success in the new tablet marketspace will be applications, and [to date] BB's app manager is not as successful as it's two primary competitors.

They are both marketing to businesses. I never thought much of the prosumer label..

Yeah I get the prosumer label thing...

My point was that the features being touted are consumer features: e-book, Adobe flash (they keep showing youtube), media, web browser, and oh yeah a secure protal into your blackberry.

This doesn't look like a device being targeted to IT/telecom. It looks like a device targeted to an individual to buy to enhance their BB experience. They even named it PLAYbook, vice workbook. Maybe I work in a pretty buttoned downed environment, but I don't see my IT poppin the cash for a Playbook over a corporate issue laptop with VPN. Less functionality and more expensive.

I have exactly the opposite opinion. It is being aimed squarely at businesses who have been ignored/rejected by Apple (and their war on Flash) and have a HUGE investment in BES and existing BlackBerrys.

Clearly aimed at enterprises...

So many negative comments personally if it can do what I need and with unlimited browsing on my data plan I will buy sight unseen in my small business (transport) which I am running from my sick bed (broken rib) it would pay for itself in no time I am allways positive about gadgets and usually make them do what I nerd
