Take the battery out and put it back in.

Wirelessly posted (VZW Storm, ATT Bold)

Hard reset= taking the phone back to factory or base software. Easiest way I know is enter a password wrong 10 times

Soft reset = battery pull. This is like rebooting a computer. No information lost

Options > Security Options > General Settings > Menu Key > Wipe Handheld is a lot quicker and easier than entering the password incorrect 10 times.

Also, when I hear hard reset, I think of a battery pull when it comes to BlackBerry devices. A soft reset I would associate with an Alt + Caps + H.

Also, OP, welcome to the forums.

Factory Reset = taking the device back to Factory Settings.
Hard Reset = Reboot with loss of power.
Soft Reset = Reboot without loss of power.

Basically, what jsconyers says above.
