Default Worst Things about the 8700g

Please Login to Remove!

What are the 3 or 4 worst things about the BB8700g. There is a lot of good things I hear, but if you had to pick (other than your carrier) what would you say are the bad features. I may switch 12 T-Mobile MDA's to the BB8700g, but want to get full info.

1) Locked to T-Mo service

2) Has silly pink T-Mo branding on the front

3) Comes in a pink box

4) Is not an 8700c

I joke! I joke!

I kid! I kid!

Its the same as an 8700c but in a cooler blue/black housing =)

The loose battery door is annoying but you can put a little foam or a business card in there and it's fine. The cheap feeling plastic and paint job doesn't match up with the price tag. That's about it though, I would buy it again if I had to.

Inability to buy a decent case not designed for the 8700c.

The loose battery door and plasticy feeling are a bit wierd - then again, as a result the unit is so light/flimsy that when dropped on concrete it just skids a bit and keeps on working (unless you hit the screen - then it's a whole 'nother story...).

Only 2 (minor) complaints:

1. The keyboard is a tiny bit more cramped than the 72xx models - it is still WAY better than the Treo, or the 71xx family of Blackberries, but it's just not quite as absolutely fabulous as the 72xx models.

2. As with the 71xx family of Blackberries, the highly reflective screen requires the backlight to be ALWAYS ON when using the device - as a result, you burn battery by simply viewing emails or playing games or whatever. On the 72xx series, with the backlight off and without making phone calls you could read and write emails and play games for A WEEK between charges. On the 87xx models, with the backlight on, I think you probably get somewhere between 5 and 10 hours of screen-on ACTIVE use of the device before it runs out of power. I like to browse the web and catch up on the news in bed before going to sleep - combined with a few games of Sudoku, I can burn quite a bit of power. The extended battery helps A LOT!

That being said, this is the absolutely best all around Blackberry, PDA, Converged Device I have ever owned - and I have owned almost all of them...

Just my $0.02.
Ian

Not specific to 8700G, but all your mail goes into the messages folder, you can't keep mail from different accounts separated.

Well......not entirely true with BIS 2.0, you can have seperate mailboxes.

This is on your bis account mailboxes. You can set up different folders. On your device you still have one "Messages" box that all email goes into, correct?

They're not folders, they're preset filters.

In my trying the 8700g out this month, for me the two things that bug me are:

wiggly keyboard (i wish it was solid in the casing like the 8700c)
useless OZ IM client (has not been able to connect once)

The only complaints that I would have about the 8700:

1. No expandable memory capability
2. Well, I guess that is about it.

At least the carrier above will unlock the device for free without any hassle (assuming 90+ days of service).

Bluetooth data transfer. I wish I could pair it with my Tomtom navigator via bluetooth to get instant traffic conditions.
