Default "Sent via Blackberry from [carrier, e.g. T-mobile]" - annoying or ok?

Please Login to Remove!

I just want opinions on this default message. I sometimes want people to see it, other times I find it annoying. Anyone feel the same?

Some folks don't like it because it tells the recipients that the sender is mobile vs. at his desk. Personal preference I suppose.

I changed mine. I don't really want people to know I get my personal email on my BB. I seldom answer email from the BB unless it's a short reply or urgent (very seldom is my personal email urgent) but they will come to expect instant answer if they realize I always have access to email.

As far as on other people's signature, I think seeing "sent from BB" or "sent from iPhone" is a bit pretentious.

Imagine this scenario:

You're at work, but you know the boss is leaving for vacation at noon. Sure enough, at the stroke of twelve he's out the door and gone for a week. So naturally, it being a slow Friday, you slip out for an early getaway to the beach. The office is on autopilot, no projects at crucial stages, and plenty of folks to man the phones. And you've got your BlackBerry for emergencies.

Then your boss shoots you an email on his way to the airport. He forgot to follow up on something and needs to know that you're on it for Monday. So you email him back that you're on top of it, all is going well at the office, and he should enjoy his vacation. You've got it covered.

Then the boss sees your "Sent from my BlackBerry" response and wonders where you are. D'oh!

Wirelessly posted (AT&T 8100 Pearl)

It's the mark of a noobie. .

I use autotext to add my own sigs as I feel appropriate.

I use it like a disclaimer. When I have bad grammar or misspell a word, it's not a big deal because its from my phone. Not as big of a deal on my Bold but my Iphone definitely needed the disclaimer sig, for a smart phone it sure made me look dumb.

As a matter of fact maybe I could get away with lazy grammar and spelling at work if my signature block said; "Sent from my ________ by At&t."

Your boss should know that you are in the building, but that sitting on the crapper, your BB is the onlything available to respond to him with all the usrgency due him.

Luckily, I have a boss who trusts me to do the job versus just "putting in the hours" so he's not wondering where I am. Secondly, I have so many meetings I'm rarely at my desk (not going to drag the laptop everywhere) so my BB is my main point of communication. But that's all besides the point. I've long ago removed that annoying little sig.

New to the BB world but would like to remove the default sig and insert my own if possible but cannot determine how to accomplish this.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

...so I guess you might frown on something like, "sent from the Blackberry in my Mercedes S550 as I cruise down Rodeo Drive"...

Some people don't like to reveal, some people use it as cover for shorter replies or mistakes, some add their own sigs with autotext, some use it for some accounts, but not others...

Depends entirely on your personal situation, needs and usage.

I get rid of the carrier name when I use it.

Personally, I like folks knowing when I'm not at my computer. They're less likely to ask for something I don't have access to at that particular moment. Of course that presupposes they're savvy enough to notice the signature and understand what it means. And I deal with a LOT of dopes!
