Default phone turning off/on by itself

Please Login to Remove!

I have had several problems with my BB since I got it 2 weeks ago. I have spoken to BB directly for a cummulative 13 hours in this week alone. I'm passed my 14 days so t-mobile won't give me a new one.

Anyway, any tips on how to fix this?

What OS is on the device? Perhaps an OS upgrade would help.

I don't know. Its a brand new 8320 through T-mobile. This didn't start until I had to switch from BES to BIS. BB made me back it up and then erase it all and add back only certain things just in case it was a virus. But that didn't help. It will restart several times a day even when I'm in the middle of emailing, talking or playing a game. Then sometimes, it will restart just sitting there. But I do notice that when playing a game, the game shutters/skips at times, like the processor is trying to work.

There is no such thing as a BlackBerry virus (at least not yet), so it's not that.

Sounds like that game might be part of the problem. You could try uninstalling that and see if it continues.

Also, what is your free memory? Click on Settings -> Options -> Status.

OK, thanks, I will try that. However, I am playing the brick game which came with the curve. I had never had problems before BB made me do several things to the device a week ago to try to fix a different problems (not recieveing SMS or emails), which was a result of switching to BIS.

I assume what your asking is "file free" - it's 21191418 Bytes

(Sorry I'm new to BB...please be patient =)

The device randomly turning off shouldn't (key word: shouldn't) have anything to do with whatever they mucked up when switching you from BES to BIS. That is a data plan change in their system (and they probably switched you to the wrong plan, hence no email).

The file free is good..... What OS do you have installed? Click on Options -> About. Fourth line down, will start with 4.....something.

According to your profile, you have an 8320. The latest released OS for that model is 4.5.0.75.

You can upgrade the OS by following the instructions in this sticky: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html

Make sure you do a backup before you start anything like this.....

In the Options menu there is a Auto On/Off selection. Maybe you have it set.

Thanks, I will try the update !!

I do have an auto on/off set up because the BB guy told me that by doing this everyday for 2 minutes, it will improve the fuction of the device. It's set in the middle of the night. However, it shuts off several times a day and restarts immediately.

If the "BB guy" told you this he should be fired since he's full of crap. Overflowing with crap, actually.

If the device is resetting during random times, several times a day, it's not the Auto On/Off (although that was a good suggestion). That only resets once per day.

Also do you have a media card (SD Card) installed. If so, remove it for the day and see if you still reboot.

Default BB 8120 Randomly turns off and reboots

I am also experiencing this issue with my girlfriends new 8120

Auto on/off is disabled. Phone is about 2 weeks old and about 3 or 4 days a go, the phone will shut off all by it's self at random times throught the day. This morning, we both woke up around 6am and noticed her phone was off...we were wondering why the alarm never went off. this morning though, it wouldnt turn back on....instead of pulling the battery, I plugged the charger back into it and then pressed the power button...nothing...so I held the power button, nothing...so I held the power button as i plugged in the charger and that made it turn back on...normally it turns back on without doing this....then the phone takes about 3 to 5 min before it finishes booting; it has always taken this long to boot from day 1. Tonight at a sox game, we were waiting to get out of the parking lot and the phone was on the dash....it just rebooted all by it's self...

so, she wants me to return it back to tmobile and pull her 8100 off ebay so she can go back to that....she never had any issues with that BB.

she also excperiences the issues with the device being slow and sluggish from time to time, like the CPU is maxed out.

This is frustrating...

I have this problem with my new 8320 (i got it yesterday), i will be in the middle of anything and it just restarts its self but it takes ages to restart.

When it is starting to go dodgy the red led goes on then the egg timer comes on for about 5 minutes, i have the latest os (v4.5.0.75) i am on orange and i was wondering if deleting the vendor.xml file was needed as i am on orange? Does anyone know a fix for this problem as it is really annoying me.

Sorry to hijack this thread!

Can you say that in english? I think you are trying to say that they were fixed when you updated the phone?
