Did you upgrade the OS to verision v4.1.0.529? My hypothesis is that OS has a bad bug in it... Anybody else care to report?

I am on a BES, and have BB Messenger installed.

Maybe if enough of us call Cingular and state the problem, they will investigate?

I have two 8700c's that have both been updated to the latest software. One of them has the backlight problem while the other is unaffected.

If anyone figures out a fix for this, I'd like to hear what it is!

Thanks,

Rob

I changed my timeout to 1 min (away from the 45 sec default) and so far it has fixed it. So maybe the fix is to take it off the default of 45 sec? Anyone else have luck with this idea?

I've had the problem occur twice since upgrading to 4.1.0.529 (five weeks ago). Each time I've fixed the problem by pulling the battery.

I'm going to try moving timeout to 60 sec. and see if I ever see the problem again, but to be honest, it's probably been a good reminder for me to occasionally cycle power in my handheld!

I have had the same backlight issue twice in the last week. The only way i've been able to correct it is by pulling the battery.

One of my users had this problem - had it set for two minutes but it didn't stay on for ten seconds. Changed the time to ten seconds, saved and then went back in and changed it back to two minutes. It looks like that fixed it for the time being.

It comes back again. Since the upgrade to the latest Cingular software, I have had to pull my battery three times to get it to work normally. First time lasted month, next time weeks and now days.

Same thing for me. After the upgrade my backlight was messed up. I had to switch the time in the settings back and forth a couple times and then it seemed to work.

My friend bought a new phone with .529 installed and it had this problem. When I upgraded my phone to .529 it also developed this problem. From my experience, pulling the battery has no effect. The only temporary solution I have found was to change the backlight timeout setting to something else (i.e. change it from 30 seconds to 45, or 45 to 30) and it works for a few days.

My week old 8700 came with v.377. I have the backlight set to 2 minutes and 100%.

The backlight dimmer seems to have a mind of it's own. When I'm actually working with the handheld, it seems as if the backlight stays at 100% for 2 minutes and then dims to...maybe 50%. Pressing the power on button will bring it back up to full bright, for another 2 minutes.

But sometimes if I just let it stay in the 50% mode when it goes there, it pops back up to 100% without pressing the power on button.

The dimmer just has a mind of it's own.

On the 8700 that auto-dim feature can be disabled in Options >Screen/Keyboard >automatic backlight (I think that's what it says, it's been gone so long from the Pearl menu that I can't remember now) set to off.

That worked John.

Would've been nice if they called it something like Auto-dim.

Anyway, thanks for the tip.

I have the same problems. Using .377. I've disabled the blacklight feature and still get the problem. The blacklight has a mind of its own. When I pull the battery it's fine for a short while--same thing when I go to Options -> Screen/Keyboard and adjust the settings--these adjustments will take affect for a few hours/days/weeks then it'll just revert to it's old ways. It's very frustrating--but I'm glad to see others are having this problem and it's not just me--that means they will make a fix for it eventually.....
