Default International Advice

Please Login to Remove!

I have been extolling the virtues of my BB to my CFO lately, and now she is interested in getting one for herself. She will be travelling in Europe and Asia the next few months and wants something that she can receive all her emails while travelling and can have internet access fo banking. I personally don't understand the differences between CDMA, EVDO, etc. Can anyone recommend a good carrir with international service and BB model.

Thanks.

You will want a carrier that uses GSM\GPRS\EDGE for international travels. Cingular or T-Mobile would be two good options. When you setup the account, make sure they know that she will be traveling internationally. Otherwise she might not be able to use the BlackBerry when out of the country.

Isn't GSM limited or unavailable in certain countries like Korea and Japan?

Default BB Japan usage

I travel international for my job (pilot) and use cingular. The roaming works perfect however in the beginning I had to call cingular from Asia and have them give me some help which they did. Japan is the only country that I'm aware of that my 8700 is unusable and I fly into about 25 countries on a regular basis. The service has been great, I just wish Japan was in the fold as I'm through there on a regular basis.

I think the 8707 is the only one capable of working in Japan but I have not tested it. The 8700C from Cingular works very well in Europe and Asia.

Yes I'm just traveling back from Japan and the 8707 certainly works there. I don't believe you can buy it in the US though (only Europe on Vodafone?).

Jax,
Were you able to use your (Europe or US?) SIM card in the 8707 while in Japan. I am with Cingular in the US and am thinking of buying an unlocked 8707 to use in Japan and use my 8700 in the rest of the world but want to keep the same phone number.

Yes I use a Vodafone UK SIM card in a 8707v which roams in Japan on Vodafone JP with no issues. When I'm in the US I use the same phone / SIM and generally roam on Cingular.
