I did some searching, trying to find a nice weather app that works great and is free. I figured it'd be cool to get a thread going about what weather apps are out there for us BB users, and discuss the pros/cons of each one.

Personally, I have used the revised BBweather and it was nice until it started working about 40% of the time. No errors, just doesn't do anything when I choose "update" or "forecast"...just sits there and does nothing, and when this happens I am no longer to hit the menu key to bring up that little menu...have to do a battery pull to fix it. Needless to say, I removed the app because it wasn't worth the headaches it was giving me.

I was going to try out the weatherbug software but apparently it costs money.

What else is out there? Please list as much info as possible about the app.

I use the mobile app from The Weather Channel. It serves the purpose for me. I don't know what your needs are. You can see current, hourly and 10 day weather and you can also see the current radar map. Just type weather.com in your mobile browser and you should be prompted to install the app.

When I go to weather.com on my BB, it just takes me to their mobile site. I don't see anything about installing an app...

Johnny - I have used BB push weather for a while. It's OK and works well, but only gives you a 5-day forecast as far as I can tell. If you want to play around with it, go here on your BB browser: BlackBerry HELP!

I actually like WeatherBug Ditect, free and very customizeable plus it updates and checks for updates/warnings very frequently.

I downloaded weathereye and it's actually pretty cool apart from not being able to find my town. I have to use a city that is about 30 miles away and around this area...weather can be very specific. If they fixed this issue, this app would blow bbweather out of the water.

Well, I wanted to post a link; but weather.com does not make it easy. I have this app for a while now and I forgot how I had installed it. They want to send an SMS to your mobile number if you want the app. On your PC, go to weather.com and click on the "Mobile" link or type this in your browser, Wireless Internet. You should get a form to enter your phone number and a verification image. When you submit it, your should get a SMS with a link. At least that's how I remember getting the app.

A warning though; this app does not run in the background and checks the weather. So, no automatic severe weather warnings etc. It remembers your zip and you can quickly check the current weather conditions whenever you want, that's all. Weatherbug Direct looks interesting in this regard, so I'm going to try it...

WeatherbugDirect didn't work for me(wasn't showing anything on the icon), and after I set my city...whenever I clicked the WeatherBug icon(big red spot), it would take me to a web page instead of a program. It got deleted after that. No web apps.

WeatherEye would be beyond awesome if they offered a metric/standard global setting, and if you could check weather for all zip codes instead of just larger cities.

BBWeather is was very picky when my reception was 1X. It also likes to do nothing at all when I click on Update or Forecast...and doesn't let me re-open that little menu again for several hours, or until I do a battery pull.

The regular WeatherBug app is a trial version, with a monthly fee afterwards if I'm correct. I haven't tried this one, mainly because I don't want to increase my phone bill.

I'm about to try the Weather Channel app posted above, and will update once I get it installed.

How long did you leave weatherbug direct there? Usually it gives the red dot when it hasn't gotten the information yet. I've only seen the red dot 2-3 times and forcing it to update the weather data has gotten rid of it. If it did work you can have 1 icon with the temp and another icon with the current forecast, but if you do click on the icon it does take you to a web page were you can see the 5 day forecast, animated radar, etc, etc.

I decided to go back to using bbweather. So far after the upgrade to OS 4.5 and a fresh install of bbweather...it's been working a bit better. I'll keep it around until a better app comes out.

It is not an application but I most often hit my bookmark that I have set up with Weather Underground for my zip code. The site is m.wund.com. The radar imaging is a nice touch allowing a choice of animating. If you just zoom in, you can add storm tracks that show which direction those midwest summer storms are moving.

Thumbs up for the WeatherBug direct. It is not only nice to have the temp reading right on the home screen, it is cool to get sever weather alerts automatically. I have been using the app for couple of days now and I like it a lot. Thanks for the app, SteveO86.

Did you run the setup wizard? If so you can manually update weather information in Options - Weatherbug direct. If that don't work you can try a battery pull, that only happened to me once or twice in the 8 months I've been using this application.
