I was wondering if there is any way to block a number?

I was thinking of changing my number but im trying to figure out if there a way to just block someones number rather than change my number?

no its not possible, as far as i am aware its not possible for your service provider to block just one number. Your best bet is to contact your service provider and ask if they can, if not then the only way is to change your number... sorry

most service providers charge a fee to change a number, now i know they make some exceptions to waive that fee. If you are wanting to block the number due to harrasement then contact your local police department and fill out a complaint against that individual, get the police report, and i believe you should be able to fax/mail it in to your service provider and they should waive the fee.

...OR if you know the number, save it into your phone book and name it something like "DO NOT ANSWER". Then edit the contact, set custom phone tune to MUTE. Next time the bastard calls, it'll show him calling if you're looking at your phone but it won't ring. =P

I do the DON'T ANSWER. To be honest with you I have DON'T ANSWER 15. lol I don't like a lot of people.

Yes, there is way. The third party software called BerryBlocker will serve your needs. Look for it over in the Aftermarket Software section or google.

Well the BerryBlocker is good... but i hate the fact that it still rings on their side and they can still leave voicemails... i want something that would disable them from calling and leaving voicemails...


and also is there something of that sort for txt messages?

they both dont do the job.. I still get notified they called when thats exactly what I dont want.. I dont wanna know they still call.
And they get the benifit of leaving a voice message....

after doing a search on this same topic i found a website called youmail where you can set up different voicemail greetings for different numbers. they also feature a good selection of custom greetings including an "error message" and "ditchmail".

the way these work is that say you want to prevent someone from calling and leaving voicemails, or you want them to get the idea that you got your number changed, disconnected, etc...you can set a custom greeting as a "sorry, number no longer in service" type error message (which are actually official phone company messages).

when the caller gets this greeting, and the ditchmail box is selected for the number, the system just hangs up on them after the greeting is played and does not allow them to leave a message...so the caller assumes the phone is no longer in service.

its a bit of a pain to set up and test out, and you need to play with the settings a little bit, but it's worth it if you really don't want to hear from someone. the only problem is that you may still get the "missed call" popup on your device even for the ditched caller...so, for my situation for the time being i just keep my phone turned off until im sure i wont have to be bothered anymore...either way, the person will assume that youve cut them off.

That's not the blocking software, that is your phone notifying you of the call; and I don't think there is much one can do to get around that.

However, I think that hanging up on the caller is better than redirecting them to voicemail, because who wants voicemail from those that you block? I put the bug in one of the dev's ears, we shall see what happens.

But still, whether it's voicemail or hangup, you will still get the notification since it's logged by your BB.

That's honestly the best way. You could always get a TRO on the person the next time it happens, sounds like a bad case of the stalker issue. =P

I had to do this for the stupid autodialer from Cablevision. Since I actually USE Cablevision, they have the right to call me even though I'm on the do not call list. I love when the number comes up - I just end the call. If they call back I pick it up, then end the call. Works like a charm. They used to call like 3x a day until they got an answer. Like a crazy ex-girlfriend...

Oh and I like how you assumed this was a guy harassing a girl and not the other way around. Though it seems you were right...
