Default BlackBerry for college students..

Please Login to Remove!

I know alot of people involved in business use bb. BUt how about college students? im a college student who is in love with bb.

I mean.. I may not need bb as much as business people, but it sure is a great way to check my email from professors.

I don't know why people would get normal cellphones when blackberry only costs a little more than regualr cell phones... hmm.. i wonder why.

I think it is a great solution for college students! It is very practical and gives you the tools you need.

The BB's do require a data plan to get email and that can be up to an additional $30/month over cellphone costs.

I'm a sophomore in college and love my BB. I use it to check and respond to e-mails from professors and classmates, and it really helps with group projects and the constant need for communication. I also use the tasks to keep track of my homework, and the calendar to input my class/work/social schedule.

I even use it for in class assignments. In psych the other day, I forgot my book, but used the browser to find the answers. I was done before anyone one in the class could even find the right chapter to look in.

They are amazing devices and I think any consumer could find the perfect use for it, business or not.

Almost forgot, I only pay $20 extra month for the internet and e-mail and it is more than worth that cost.

It's even better for commuter students who might not have Internet access all the time. Even for kids living on campus, it can be a great way to keep up -- especially when professors email the class to let them know its cancelled.

I am the BES Admin at a University. I used to be surprised at how the students were able to afford a Blackberry with a data plan, but no more. There are Blackberry devices (and those i-things) all over campus in the Students hands. They will be even more integrated with Calendar and Google Docs access when we move the student email over to Gmail hosted mail starting next month.

Have you ever tried Cram for the BlackBerry? or StudentDocket?

Both of these are highly recommended for College/Uni students.

Cram helps lets you create quick tests to take while on the go and Student Docket is a task manager specifically designed for the student lifestyle (where the Tasks app by default on the BB is more business oriented).

There are plenty of non-business people both in college and out of college who can benefit from the BB. The "BB is for business" stereotype is extremely dated -- not unlike "PC's are for business" IMO.

I was a college freshman in 1993 and I can assure you, if there had been a device like my BB Curve available back then - holy smokes would it have come in extremely handy!

I think a BB for college students is a great choice, and it's only going to get better. With devices like the Kickstart and Storm coming out, the stigma of "BB is for Business" is slowly changing, and now every college kid can have that cool touchscreen BB or flip BB. 5 years ago when everyone had 7200 bricks, it might not have been so cool to be on campus with that thing.

Wouldn't have worked for me (graduated college in 93). I would have pawned it for beer money.

I am a college student and I own a Curve. Before that I had an 8800. I purchased both devices entirely by myself and split my monthly bill 60/40 with my parents. Be careful when you make blanket statements.

Moving on, I do have my school email added in my BIS settings. It is very handy to get email from my professors right on my phone - especially on mornings when I am running late and might not have time to sit down at my computer to find that class has been canceled.

Sheesh! When I was a freshman we were still using pagers and running for pay phones whenever the damn things beeped. Nobody had cell phones yet.

A BlackBerry in my opinion is an essential device for a multi-tasker, which is why it is so fitting for a student. The upcoming BlackBerry device releases will also prove to be an invaluable addition to a student's life.

Unlike other devices the BlackBerry's stablity, flexiblity, and ease of use are just unmatched. I would not want to be a student with another device. I also love the ever growing list of applications that are focusing more on the consumer and student needs.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

It would be nice if students were able to do their online classes on the bb. Whether it be through Opera Mini or the native browser. Such programs such as blackboard or Web CT
