Default "Fixing" PERMISSIONS by altering FIREWALL setting

Please Login to Remove!

Okay, I have two programs that constantly ask for PERMISSION. Both are set to allow when I view or edit their permissions in Option/Advance/App/etc.

Apparently, this constant nagging for Permission can be "fixed" if one changes the FIREWALL setting. What does the Firewall setting affect otherwise on the BB 8830. Does it alter the behavior of the BBBrowser, Email or the phone, itself?

Thanks for any information

The firewall settings make sure you know that an app is accessing portions of the OS or the net. You can turn it off, if you want to unless you are on a BES.

I was wondering about changing permissions myself. I have enabled the firewall so Opera Mini would stop asking me for permission, however in doing that everytime I use GPSed I have to shut off the firewall because I get this error:
"The application gpsedbb has attemped to open a connection to a location inside the firewall and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy."
I checked options > security options > general and there is no mention of an IT policy. Also I made sure all the permissisons for GPSed were set to 'allow' and just don't know if there is anything else to do. Can you adjust the permissions given by the firewall somehow?

You probably had an IT Policy on the phone at one point. Did you buy the phone brand new, or used?

I was thinking the same thing but when he said he enabled the firewall, that threw me.

It's possible there is a blank policy on the device that doesn't have the split pipe connection set to allow. There is a new policy.bin you can place on it that will allow that.

I got it used from a guy saying it was "never used just an open box blah blah blah" and it looked as if it was brand new, of course, and had all the protection stickers placed perfectly and no call logs or messages or anything but once I got it home and started using it I noticed an email address had been synced to it, however it was not a BB email address. I will search for the 'policy.bin' and see what that is and try it when I get home today.

John, I was just reading your right up on removing the IT policy and noticed how it said you can use JL_Cmder's factory reset option with 4.3. Well long story short I tested out 4.5 (and your write up says "4.3 or higher") but during that test when I reverted back to 4.2 I ended up using JL_Cmder's factory reset because I thought I had bricked my phone. Anyways, would having 4.5 be like 4.3 where as the factory wipe should have removed all of the IT policies? Sorry if that doesn't make to much sense and I know that's kind of a strange question, but if you know that would rock. If not I will try and remove it from that link you sent. Thanks again.

4.5 should support the 'reset to factory' parameters for the wipe, much like 4.3 does.

Yes, 4.5 definitely supports the "resettofactory" command in JL_Cmder (javaloader.) You can reset to factory on OS 4.5 and then reload 4.2, if desired, and the IT Policy should still be gone. That's the beauty of it!

OK I did the "resettofactory" with 4.5 loaded and I am still getting the same error when I try to use GPSed with the firewall on! Any other ideas? Before it was just annoying, but now it is turning into a mission!
