Okay...

I know this isn't the "T-mobile" router but WRT54GX seems to work fine at home. At work, both locations have WRT54GX4s and my Curve sees the connection, but will not connect at all period.

Everytime I get the W010 error message "Wifi Association Failed". I called T-mo atleast 5 times and finally they put me through a router specialist and he won't troubleshoot this router because "it's not one of t-mo routers" and says it's probably the router itself.

Now... There should be a fix to this. Why would GX work and not GX4? I've tried playing around with the settings with channels 1,6,11, turning off the Adaptive channel Expansion, and turning ALL securities off and same error. I read one thread here with someone mentioning GX4 but no luck on their end it seems as well.

Any ideas? Thanks guys, I'm <---> close to just going out and grabbing a t-mo supported router to carry it to work in both locations (which is ridiculous, but what can I do when t-mo signals are SOS inside buildings).

check and see if the router or the network behind it has ipsec blocked through it

Don't know if this helps:

W010 - Wi-Fi Connection Failed

Meaning: The wireless network is no longer in range, or it has a weak signal.

1. The wireless network is not in range or has a weak signal to provide a successful connection.

2. If the attempt to connect is through the Saved Networks list, the network may not be available or the profile saved has different security settings than the available wireless network.

3. If the attempt to connect is through the Available Networks list, then the user has probably walked out of the area of coverage of that particular wireless network.

Is it possible your work GX4's are restricted via MAC address control by the IT dept.? I'd try a third, random wifi (walk to a Starbucks, whatever) and get a third opinion in the matter.

EDIT: oops it looks like you have admin access to the work GX4's so that's not it

I even took it out of server room to rule out all possible factors that may hinder the connection, but it just seems like it's a GX4 issue. iPhones seem to connect fine though *sigh*.

I guess I'll just have the company buy the routers from T-Mo if no solution comes up for GX4s. Just hoping the Linksys routers they're selling have excellent range. Thanks guys for the input as usual!

Has anyone got the Wifi on the 8329 to work with the linksys WRT54GX4?

I've tested with GX2 and GX4, they both do not work.

On the other hand, I'm in S.Cali and their T-Mo stores had the linksys routers for $50 and $50 mail-in-rebate IF you have signed up for the Hotspot feature. So if you did, it's basically a free router.

I just grabbed it and parked it at work. Oh well, so much for GX2 and 4 not working.

I WAS GETTING THE SAME ERROR... I JUST UNPLUGGED THE ROUTER AND PLUGGED BACK IN... AND ERROR STOPPED

Anyone tried loading dd-wrt on their GX2/4s? I had a little belkin that it refused to connect to, and after loading 3rd party firmware on it, it holds a rock solid connection.

Has anyone been able to get the wrt54gx4 to work with the 8320? I have tried resetting the router and the web key. Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same error message on one of my routers (linksys WRT54G), and after extensive troubleshooting found it to be a relatively simple thing to fix: my router had 'mac filtering' enabled under wireless security (it allows only the devices listed on the 'mac list' to connect. So I looked up my blackberry mac address (Options>Status>WLAN MAC), added it to the list of allowed mac addresses on the router, restarted the router, and PROBLEM SOLVED.

Also, always make sure that you have the two wifi service books on your bb. I didn't have it in the beginning and tmobile had to resend them.

Service Books Needed for WiFi to work on bb:

* Wi-Fi TCP/IP Browser [BrowserConfig] - Controls Internet browsing over Wi-Fi.
* Wi-Fi TCP/IP Transport [WPTCP] - Controls calls over Wi-Fi (T-Mobile HotSpot @Home service).

Thanks for the reply. My MAC is disabled and I do not want to enable because it will keep other pcs from accessing the router. Any other suggestions?

I am having the same problems reported with the WRT54GX4 - "W010: WiFi association failed" can't connect regardless of settings on the router.
No MAC filtering
No security
No nothing

This is my personal home router and I have control over all the settings.

SO - has *anyone* gotten the blackberry to connect to a WRT54GX4? So far I haven't found a single case on the Internet where someone has claimed to have done so successfully...

I also have a WRT54GX4 at home, which I've had for probably about a year. I've never had a problem with laptops connecting to it, but could not get my new 8820 to connect.

Normally I run the router with MAC address filtering turned on and with WPA security.

I turned all of that off, plus turned off the firewall. Still no joy.

Tried power off/on on both phone and router, no luck there either.

Forced the router to specific frequency channels and limited data rate and disabled channel expansion, none of that worked either.

The phone connects just fine to every other AP I have tried, so I don't think that it's a phone issue.

It's got me stumped.

It's not a great router for the 8320, unfortunatly. The WRT54GS is a very good one, though.
