Authorise 2 Handsets

Hi all
Seriously newbie question this but.........
I have a user that needs a new handset, as his current device is intermittently losing power.
Is there any reason why I should not authorise a second handset while he is still using the faulty one?
Our setup is BES Express and Exchange 2010 with 8310 handsets if this makes a difference.
