Default What's the point of wallpaper?

Please Login to Remove!

I just got my BlackBerry Torch and am getting adjusted to the new OS. I don't quite understand the purpose of the collapsible tray. Can I put icons on the "desktop" area? Why would I ever want to collapse the tray, other than to look at the wallpaper? Maybe I'm missing the point. Can someone clue me in?

It works the same as the homescreen did on the Curve. you had one row of icons or your could press the BB button and see all the icons. Am I missing something?

What I don't understand is, on my Torch you can minimize the Tray completely. This shows just your wallpaper, and is completely pointless, unless for some reason you like staring at that particular picture. To activate any programs you have to open the tray again. I'm wondering if you can put icons on this "desktop" wallpaper area that would thus stay there no matter which tray was open. As far as I can tell, and I've looked quite a bit, you can't. Seems completely pointless. If I wanted to look at pictures I'd use the media apps!

I have BB6 on my Bold (see avatar), and I have 1 row of icons showing for each tray. If I want to see all the icons I open the the tray. That's how the UI works. You'll have to install a theme to change it.

I have the bold and am currently running 6. I prefer the no icons on the screen look and get to everything using QL and hot keys. It's basically a matter of personal preference. Of course with the smaller bold screen and adding a row of icons along the bottom adds clutter imo. Good we have choices.

I just realized you can show no icons, although it isn't useful at all since you can't scroll between panels.

I use to prefer "L" themes just see my home screen picture, but with OS 6 the home screen picture is almost useless since the notification icon is so far down screen...

I'm the kind of guy that just wants to see what I need when I need it, and I use to live off the home screen, 8 icons was all I needed for the day

To each his own, I suppose.
