Default Guys I really need help!

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys I own a blackberry 8703e. It's not connected to any network, and I live in Canada. What happened is that while it was in my pocket on keypad lock mode, an emergency call was made The trackwheel scrolled to emergency call, confirmed it, and turned radio on... I hung it up asap, but I am really worried something may happen. Do emergency calls go through even when not connected to a network? I am worried some cops will knock at my door any minute now

Welcome to the forums.

It's my understanding, at least in the US - not sure about Canada, that emergency calls will go thru even if your device is not activated on a network.

How long was the call?

Yes, the call will go though. rGenerally, the police will triangulate the call and send out SWAT. They have a strict shoot-to-kill policy for all unanswered emergency calls, so the best thing to do is go to the nearest police station and turn yourself in!

Or, they may just call you back to see if you pocket dialed them, since they get more of those than actual emergency calls.

thanks for reassuring me guys, especially you oasissux ...thankfully i havent gotten anything yet. juwaack68 I hung up the call right away, like literally right away...anyways, is there anything I can do to avoid such a situation again? I use the phone as an organizer only. I have started turning it on and off eveytime. Despite how annoying that is, atleast I wont make that mistake again.

I wouldn't worry about 1 call. If the emergency dispatch was worried, or even received the call, they would have called you back by now.

Do you not use a holster? That would be the best way to prevent it from happening again.

lol I turned off my phone instantly, I dont have to much experience with cell phones so I panicked I ordered a silicone case from ebay, I dont like holsters too much. I hope a silicone case can add an extra layer thick enough to prevent the track wheel from easily being pressed

Set phone option dial from home screen to no. If it happens again, talkt to the operator and explain it was an accident. Otherwise if they can locate the phone, they may send police to ascertain the situation.

Alright thanks, I did set phone option dial from home screen to no, but that doesnt solve the emergency call problem when keypad is locked...thanks a lot though, please give me any other suggestions if possible.

Carry it in the holster. The magnets in a Blackberry specific holster will keep the keys inactive.
