Default How to install BBM 5 without Data plan?

Please Login to Remove!

is there a way to install Blackberry Messenger 5.0 without a data plan?

I have an unlimited email and IM plan and would have to pay outrageous data charges to download through BB App World.

Since you can't use BBM without a BlackBerry Data Plan, what's the point?

How are you planning on using it without a data plan?

Doh! You beat me to it.

Very, very confusing. You have a plan that allows for data, but you don't want to use it.

So why are you using BBM?

Wirelessly posted (My name is Bubbles)

BBM will only work with a Blackberry data plan ie. BIS or BES

Granted, Rogers could be mistaken but IIRC the email support would require access to the BB APN as well so maybe not.

I have the $15 Unlimited Email/IM (only) plan, and I was able to update to BBM 5.x version through USB.

Using Internet Explorer, go to BlackBerry Messenger homepage, there is a link where you can download the latest BBM via desktop. Click on that, install the ActiveX they require you to, connect your BB, etc. next next next, done.

However, it seems like they disabled update via Desktop at the moment, so hopefully it'll be available again in the future.

And YES, all features of new BBM works with the $15 BB Unlimited Email/IM (data) plan. Geez.

Don't mind all the know-it-alls, they still haven't figured out that Canadian carriers offer a data-lite plan that allows for unlimited email/bbm, but no web surfing.

I downloaded it to my computer from here:

BlackBerry - BlackBerry Messenger

Good for you.

Next time someone comes around complaining about this plan not working, or how to download BBM, or how to do anything else with this plan, please feel free to step in and handle it. No need to wait 2 and a half months before yelling from the peanut gallery that others don't know what they're talking about.

Lol.

I forgot the glacial pace that this site moves at. I should've checked the date on the OP instead of assuming it was a fresh thread.

Regardless, the info still stands.
