Hi guys!

I have a BB data plan with 2 BIS e-mail accounts with my North-American provider (Telus). I'm going to Thailand for 1 month and have bought a local sim card with a BB data plan.

My question is: how does it work?

Do I need to delete my BIS account with my North-American provider before I leave and create a new BIS account with the Thailand provider? or Can I just put my Thailand SIM card and it should work without changing any settings?

Yes, but you cant delete the account, the carrier has to.

You will need to unlock the (GSM portion) your 8830 so it will work with the local SIM. If you want BB data, then you will need to call your carrier and CANCEL your BIS account and add a BB data plan with that local Thai carrier.

Do you know if they support the BB?

Instead of calling Telus and cancelling my BIS account, Can I remove my 2-email accounts and then transfer the BIS account to my old Blackberry? Then my 9700 would be "free" of any BIS account?

If you have a BB data plan on your old BB, log in to your BIS account and enter the IMEI/ESN and PIN. That will release the 9700 PIN and IMEI for you to use.

If you do not have a data plan on the old device, then it will not work. And if one of the email accounts is the carrier supplied account then you could lose it.

Would it be easier to just set up your old BB with the Thai SIM/data plan, and configure it for your email?

Does Telus have an international data package? That might be one way to go, but the price is something to check into first.

Deleting the BIS account does not delete messages already on the BB.

Given some of the used BB posts (buyer bought a used BB and started receiving the prior owner's BIS mail even though the old BIS account was with a different carrier) that may not be necessary. However, it would be safest to kill/transfer your BIS account and set up a new one with the Thai carrier.

I did more research before leaving and the only thing you need to do is unlock your BB. No need to delete your BIS account as long you keep your North American plan active. I arrived in Thailand today, I put my Thailand SIM and I have access to my Telus BIS e-mails just like that!

I hope you have an international data package enabled through your carrier. International data charges can be monstrous without one.

There will be no data roaming fees from Telus since I'm not using their SIM. My BB connects dirrectly to RIM server through my Thailand data plan...
