I didn't believe several posters here until I saw it with my own eyes.

I would have to disagree. They have stated numerous times that it is Quad Band GSM. The "Minutes with Mike" presentations, the national sales manager presentation provided by RIM & Verizon, the sales force talking points. Everything bit of information that was released repeatedly said Quad Band GSM. Most really don't know what that means and assume it's like the 8830 that has only Dual Band GSM.

Salespeople.......

When I called Verizon's global support to activate the SIM card that came with the phone, that was pretty easy to do. However, the guy I spoke with says to me that in order to use the SIM, I need to upgrade my BB data plan to the global data plan at $65 a month. I say to him, aren't the data and voice separate? Are you telling me that if I don't switch to the global data plan, then I can't make or receive phone calls overseas? He said yes. He sent me an email with his name, email address and phone number and told me that when I am planning to travel overseas to contact him and he would switch my data plan over for me.

Naturally, he also wouldn't give me the unlock code. I'll try for the unlock code another time.

Any advice on how to get Verizon to hand over the code if they resist?

Who did you speak too. I would suggest you call Global Support or Sales.

Global Sales 800.711.8300

Global support 877.726.1822 or 866.875.6934

If those don't work try.

800.899.4249

Verizon has so many Global Support teams it's crazy.

naturally i'd agree, but i bought my phone from best buy and it says nothing of this nature on the contract i signed, so legally, I am not obligated to pay for anything if i cancel within the 30 day period...meaning, if i can get the unlock code, it's fair game for me...?
I hope...cause I'm looking at the contract i signed at BB and it says nothing about equipment returns or promotional pricing...

I bought mine from bestbuy too, but along with the receipt I have a vow customer agreement that talks about the $175.

The browser should have been there from the VZW activation, if not log on to your VZW account on the web, navigate to BIS setup and send service books again.

What if you wait until after the 30 days then cancel. Can VZW charge anything other than the etf of $179?

I purchased a Curve in May. Canceled my VZW account in September and sold it on ebay for $300+. Paid my $175 term fee and went to another carrier. Nothing brought up about retail price of phone.

I used to work for BellSouth Mobility which became Cingular then ATT. The Best Buy contract has a cancellation fee which is different from the carrier fee. It would be very expensive to cancel too soon if you purchased at Best Buy. Some contracts are on screen in some of the retail outlets and may not be fully printed. Trust me, it will be a battle to get out of a fee if it is actually in the contract. Especially the Best Buy fee because they are the ones taking the hit on the equipment if you keep it. Then cancel and they lose their commission from the carrier. Bad news!
