Default Just bought a new Blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all, i'm new here :D

I've just bought a blackberry 9000 off ebay, and im just wanting to know, what problems i can expect and what things i'll need to do to solve them in advance.

Currently im on vodafone and have a standard contract with unlimited internet and data each month. The Bold is locked to voafone which is fine.

Just wondering if there is anything i need to do to get internet to work, and things like my blackberry pin, should i expect any issues.

All help greatly appreciated

Thanks in Advance

Start by reading the Blackberry FAQs. (See top menu bar.)

And one of the first things you will need to do is change out your standard internet plan for a Blackberry Data plan. No Blackberry Data Plan = no PIN messaging, push email, etc. These things rely on RIM servers therefore must have a Blackberry Data Plan.

Brilliant, i'll read through those now.

Do you have any idea if Vodafone will charge me for adding BIS to my contract, since i already have unlimited internet and data

you will need to unsubscribed the unlimited internet and data and switch it to Blackberry Data Plan. I might cost the same, I am not sure.

Yes, BIS will cost a monthly sum.

In the UK, BIS via Voda costs £5 per month as an extra.

Thanks guys for all ur replys. I have got my BB Bold now and LOVE it

it was so smooth, no problems, i wiped the device with JL_Cmder and installed OS 5, which is awesome. Popped into vodafone and the lovely man canceled my unlimited data plan, and added on BIS with unlimited data for free each month, so im a happy camper!

Loving having access to all BB services!

Here is an article from our FAQ about buying a used BB. Should give you some of what you are looking for: Buying a BlackBerry off eBay - BlackBerryFAQ

BIS on consumer Voda is a fiver but you would need to keep the internet plan as well since the BIS plan only covers BB mail and transport over BIS and EXCLUDES dropping transport to WAP/direct tcp. You would think you have *unlimited* net with BIS (there is a fair use of 500GB on Voda but it's not a hard limit and they dont charge going over it) but any applications you run that drop transport outside BIS would come back with charges.

I know the business team that deals with Voda blackberry accounts are extremely capable but im not quite sure if you can reach them on a consumer account. I guess if you have issues and you complain enough eventually someone would forward you.

If you have issues with the support number the Vodafone online support forum is quite helpful resolving problems. There is even a dedicated Blackberry section and they can escalate issues across all departments.

To avoid nasty surprises login to online billing and check that Mobile Internet is mentioned under My Products and Plans -- View Price Plan. You won't find your BIS mentioned there, that would be in your Account Summary in the Billcentre.
