Default Luxury BlackBerry Line

Would I be the only one interested in buying a luxury BlackBerry? I don't mean any of the BS customized ones, but a real, bonafide luxury BlackBerry from RIM. Now, I'm not talking like a Vertu or Ulysse Nardin type of handest, more like a TAG Meridist, Nokia Sapphire or Carbon Arte, or the Motorola Aura. Something that is subtle, but made of high-quality material that won't scratch or break with the slightest fall or bump. Don't get me wrong, BlackBerry devices are very tough, but I think they could be tougher and more sophisticated at the same time. My 9700 has seen better days for sure. Personally, I would like to see a 9100-style device with a flat black metal (or better yet ceramic) body, laser-cut SureType keypad, and sapphire crystal screen. For the environment in which I live and work, this would be ideal. Like a good watch, it would easily survive the rigors of the mountains of Afghanistan, but still look in perfect shape when I touch down in Europe, Asia, or the US for holiday.

I'm mixed on my response. While I personally wouldn't mind a nicer BB (and could afford it if I choose), not sure how many they would sell or if those of us interested would have the same thing in mind. Would they make it for GSM or CDMA? Maybe flat black is not my idea of luxury -- maybe I want it with a burnished champagne metal finish. Or.....what ever list you and I come up with, someone else will have a different idea. But it is still an intriguing idea.

My guess is that this would be a customization job where somebody would build a housing to your specifications and then put the guts of a BB into that housing. I'd guess you could get it done if you were willing to pony up the $$.

Considering I am on VZW.. I would be happy getting new devices more frequently before I start asking for more luxurious looking BlackBerries.

Of course idea of a nicer Blackberry would be like softer keys or something or built in privacy/glare shields.. Typing up a lot of long emails get tiring real quick (especially when you got 2 Blackberries) But that's just me.

I don't think this would be for me. While they would be nice and I could see there being a market for this, I think I will take my functionality over the nicer "housing". I know that they would most likely have the same BlackBerry functionality, but to me it would seem more like a status symbol than a productivity device.

I do suppose fancy cases/covers and Coveroo's can offer a uniqueness for now?

A hot glue gun and fake jewels pops into my head when you said that.

(P.S. For the record: I'M NOT SERIOUS. DO NOT TRY THIS.)

I really can't stand covers or cases, hence my desire for a stronger housing and screen.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 11000 Colosol)

I would love to see that. Maybe a metallic housing. It would definitely feel higher end
