Exclamation Erase Data and Disable Handheld doesn't work

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

When I send a Erase Data and Disable Handheld to a 7290 running 4.0.2.35 the device only resets and deletes data. It doesn't kill it self.

I get the KILL_DEVICE_REQUEST entry in my logs.

Is there a policy that prevents this for happing?

I'm running BES 4.0.2.3 and Lotus Notes

Thanks for your input

Exclamation

I don't even get the device to erase the data when I use that option!!!

-Is there some reason that wouldn't work with the 7105t, or a problem because the software is too old?
I've tried testing this a couple of times with no luck!

BBVersion 4.0.2.49
BES Version 4.0.6.7
Lotus Notes

I haven't tried this on any of the Pearls yet, so it could just be an older model\version thing, but it still worries me!!

(Unfortunately, our company wants EVERYTHING wireless, so in order to update the software on these old devices, I have to physically get them and put them on my pc to switch them over.. Which is a LOT more work than I'd like to do if I can avoid it..)

What do you mean kill ?

Once the data is gone the device is no longer attached to your BES and no longer is sending and receiving email. Thats dead to me. I wouldnt want the device to be physically dead...

We have tested the old BBs and the new ones - they all wipe just fine remotely

I agree. that's as "dead" as it gets. The goal is to remove your data, not to turn it into a paperweight.

You can also use the option to lock the handheld. That way they can only use it to call 911.

The "finish him" move you might be looking for would be to call your providor and disable the SIM/DEVICE.

Kill and Lock. Then call your VWZ, O2, TMO, ATT whoever... no phone calls, no web surfing...

+1 to going mortal kombat on the device via carrier. I suppose RIM shouldn't call it a "kill" its a bit misleading

its supposed to erase the OS as well so when you perform the kill command the HH should get a "507" error.
