I just got my 8230 from Alltel a couple days ago. I had previously used an 8130. I installed my favorite apps (GMail, Google Mobile, Google Maps, BeeJive and Opera Mini) and set things up the same as I did on my 8130. Something I had recently had trouble with on my 8130 was battery life. It turns out I needed to change BeeJive to use "direct=http" to help things out. If I went a whole day (18 hours) without much activity, I'd be down to 50%. This was good. I've done the same thing with my 8230 but it seems to run the battery down completely in about half the time.

To troubleshoot I have shutdown BeeJive completely to make sure it's not causing problems. So far today, I'm losing about 5% every hour which seems fast to me. I followed the FAQ for maximizing your battery and decided to turn off bluetooth (I always had it enabled on the 8130) and also to reduce my screen brightness all the way. Has anyone else noticed a faster battery drain on this phone?

I think the changes I made this morning have slowed the battery drain down quite a bit. I'll turn something back on this afternoon until I narrow down the culprit.

I think you are taking a good approach to troubleshooting this. Keep us posted on your findings!

I'm still not overly pleased with battery life as it's not uncommon for me to be at 20% before bed. I've not had BeeJive running and it seems to help a little. I do have Sametime and Yahoo running instead but I'm going to stay off those for this week and see if that helps. Bluetooth does seem to be a drain so I only turn that on when I need it. Could this all still be an OS issue?

It might be an OS issue, but how is your cell reception/signal? Those can cause a big battery drain especially if the phone is having to work at maintaining a weak signal (1-2bars). This is especially true for CDMA phones I believe.

My reception is usually pretty good. I've got 5 bars right now. I used my 8130 in the same area without problems. Are their known reception problems with the 8230?

No reception problems that I am aware of. OS upgrade may help, it's worth a shot.

Ive found that my drain was windows msn, google maps, bluetooth (even though I use it every day I turn it off when not in use), wifi (not your case)

Im thinking that your phone has gps so a big consumption could be an app thats accessing the gps antennae information like google maps, blackberry maps or such...

The max battery you can get its reached after a few cicles of use... so you might not be there yet... thus seems a little short...

I charge my 8220 every day but thats because I use it as mp3 player over bluetooth also... so...
