Default .132 Available on Crackberry!

Well I've been away a while and I happened to hit Crackberry today and saw .132 available.

People have already downloaded and installed it and the claims are the usual ones. Faster accelerometer, better reception, and better memory.

Download your copy before it gets pulled!!

I am downloading as we speak. I think I might install and take it with me on my trip. Could be risky but what the heck!

Let's here your responses!

Man if I had dollar for every person that said that the accelerometer was faster, I wouldn't feel the recession...lol

I definitely hear you Drummer boy!

Well, I downloaded 4.7.0.132 for my 9530 and it took approximately 10-15 minutes to install. Take care to backup your files before the install as the backup process failed during the app-loading process. Once I reinstalled all my files and settings I unplugged my Storm and conducted the obligatory battery pull.

For the record I have transitioned from .65 > .75 > .99 > .103 > .132

I am about 20 minutes into handling the phone with the new OS (.132).

Accelerometer is slightly faster. There is a slight kick in the transitioning speed. When waking it up there is an initial lag but afterwards the phone does orient itself noticeably faster from portrait to landscape and vice-versa.

My call reception is still good and I am getting an extra bar in places where I previously had a weaker signal, i.e. my office.

The really good change is the camera application runs even better. It ran well for me with .103 but I am making no exaggeration in that there is a noticeable difference in picture quality. It seems the picture taking process runs a tad bit slower BUT the auto focus runs better and the quality is there for the end result.

My Facebook application runs better and I can see the difference in photo quality of the first test photo I uploaded from the phone.

Additionally, I am noticing a much smoother transition when surfing the menus with my Grungy Gant theme.

So far I am digging the new OS. I will be traveling tomorrow so the field test will tell all. If you are still running .75 or any OS below .103, I can definitely say with confidence that this may be the OS you have been waiting for.

I also heard through the grapevine that Verizon has possibly pushed back its impending new OS release. The skinny I got was that it was possibly going to be .122 but who knows.

IMO - if you are still running .75 you will be thrilled with .103 for sure. For now .132 seems to be a small leap in a positive direction. I am interested in what everyone else has to say about .132. I am really digging it so far.

how are GSM users finding reception quality on this version, when compared to previous .113,.114,.122 OS's ?

thanks for that....

i did some digging in the crackberry thread and found that as well....

i figure it takes a good hour or 2 every time i load a new OS, so i'll stick with .122, so far when it aquires EDGE it seems to stay there....
i also found on crackberry that color banding is still present in the new OS. they are saying it's not a glitch but a UI tweak, improves phone performance...

it's not that much of an eye sore to me, but it would be nice-er to see better resolution....at least video, camera and pictures display without any color banding

Yeah i just dove in. I cant be bothered by the 78 pages over there to find nothing but verizon people and no info on us no verizon gsm users. It holds EDGE will im not doing anything. Then goes to edge whenever i use internet or anything. I will just put the .90 radio code in and hope for one day when i can just load an os and be fine.

From what I've read over at "jackal"berry is that for vzw customers this is a pretty decent upgrade from the .122 that has been out for sometime now...i can't speak for other carriers, but from what my friend on AT&T says after installing, EDGE is now hard to come by...it may take some time to truly tell the difference, but it varies from region to region

i am dling as we speak and will install asap...i just hope the battery drain from .122 is improved because after 2 20min phone calls on a full charge i'm down to 50%

With stable OS releases like .122 and now .132 i don't think it matters what verizon does anymore

Used .122 for 7 days no issues upgraded to .132 seems as stable and faster

Apparently RIM is not going to be accused of being the one who is not providing fixes for the Storm.

Keep up the good work

Heed this advice as it also happened to me as well...back up your files before install, this was the only problem i encountered during install, other than that it was a smooth process...i'll report back with some findings

The download went extremely slow for me, and then a little over halfway in, it timed out. When I tried to redownload it, I got this message: "Attention! You used up your limit for file downloading! Please try in 37 minute(s)." How irritating.

I'm going to give a try. I've lost confidence in Verizon ever releasing an update.

Went from .122 to .132

So far so good. EDGE seems as stable as it was on .122 still once in awhile it drops to edge but nothing unbareable.... I regained quite a bit of memory. I have a lot of apps installed and easily gained 10mb!!! It does seem a bit snappier.

Accelerometer though seems about the same.

I'm currently monitoring my battery life. It use to drain pretty quick on .114 and .122 so we'll see how it works with this OS.

I still have some work to do with testing but I do think I'm gonna keep it.

Cheers.

2hrs in and I'm not too satisfied with the radio file so i'll prolly be modding the files with either .114 or .90 radio files...
battery life is ok, haven't had the chance to make a phone call yet, but keeping the screen on consistently doesn't seem to be an issue...

I just finished getting it set up. Had to restore my contacts and other junk and had lost the browser but got it back using the Host Routing Table. These both gave me a scare because this is only the second time I've done and OS update but I got solved. Seems to be running very fast so far.

Well, I was finally able to upgrade, but I also lost my browser. It came back after a battery pull, and now I'm just hoping that .132 has a better battery life than .122 and .114, and I also hope it doesn't drop to 1X and 1xev from 1XEV as frequently. Only time will tell...

[edit: Spoke too soon. I've been stuck on 1xev for ten minutes now and can't do anything. :( ]
