I understand that in the os 5.0, the firefox, IE, blackberry browser identifications are different emulation modes. Does anybody know if there are any advantages to picking one over the other?

changing sometimes helps in better viewing of web page, especially if site adjusts page to browser.
In my case it helped to change from Blackberry to Firefox.
