Just use the calculator and multiply the price by .20 for twenty percent.

I use the standard and multiply by 1.15 to find the total.

Hope this helps.

If I get crappy service, I don't even need the calculator.

Price x 0 = $0.

Well said, but for crappy service, if I'm not going back to that place (highly likely), they get a tip that really let's them know I just didn't forget. Usually one percent, sometimes just all the pennies in my pocket.

As long as you never go back. If you do, you might end up with a sneeze sandwich or even better...spit soup.

My dad said he once left a nickel tip in a full water glass....placed upside down on the table courtesy of the plastic place mat (and then minus the place mat). Not sure if he was pulling my leg, but that would make a mess when the waiter/waitress lifted up the glass....

TipMe.... Free, simple and works well. It actually rounds to the nearest dollar.

And I bet it rounds up too.

I'll go with doing it in my head. It ain't rocket science. And if I get too confused I have the BB calculator. No need to have another App just to multiply by 1.15.

You need a calculator to figure out basic percentages in your head?

At least with me, it would take much more time to enter it into a calculator rather than just doing it in my head..

You must be smarter than us...that's ok though...I must be a dummy. Plus using a calculator keeps you from messing up.I've done seen those smart fellers leave 11 or 12% when they added wrong in their head.

Lastly, it gives me one more reason to play with my BB some more.

I'm a server and I would much rather have someone leave me nothing than a bunch of f'in pennies. Even if you did receive terrible service, that is just a show of great disrespect to your server.

Secondly, why do people get so pissed off at your server for things that come out wrong or if your glass doesn't stay completely filled the whole time you are there? I try my best to keep everyones glasses filled and all that stuff, but I work at one of the busiest Applebee's in the entire U.S.and people will go absolutly crazy if their server isn't by their side the whole time they are there.

If I go out to eat and get bad service, I will leave $3-$5. But if I get good service then I'll leave $10. Sometimes more if I know the person. And that's just for me and my girlfriend if she is with me.

I am very fair, I always tip 20% for good service and 15% for bad. I have never ever stiffed anyone on their tip. I have told them I will never be back and why, but I would never stiff anyone.

In a former life, I was a health inspector, so trust me when I say that a little saliva or mucous in your meal is the least of your worries. There's some active "food sabotage" that goes on, to be sure, but most of the danger comes from what the staff isn't doing more than what they do.

As far as tipping, if the server is polite, the food comes out reasonably fast and is at least a little warmer than room temperature, I'm putting down 20%. If the service is consistently bad (say, twice in a row), I just won't be going back there. I full well realize that the server has almost no control over what comes out of the kitchen, so I judge them on what they can do to make my visit a pleasant one.

My favorite math trick for figuring the tip (because I'm a math moron) is to move the decimal one place to the left and then double the result. 15.00 is 1.50 x2 = $3.00. Voila: 20%.

My wife and I were just talking about this.

Say the bill is $48.00.>>>> move the decimal over 1 place to get
10%=$4.80.

For 20% tip= add $4.80 twice (9.60).

For 15% tip= take 1/2 of $4.80 ($2.40) + $4.80 = $7.20

It's okay to round off a little bit. Or to download something to do this for you.

I wasn't talking about anyone specific, on here especially because I have never served any of you.

But what I really hate is when people get mad because their food takes longer than they want it to. Servers have no control on how long it takes for your food to be cooked. Some people act like their food takes 5 minits to be cooked and then sits back there for another 5 or 10 minits.

I think it's funny when people ask if their food is ready. I'll politely say, "Oh, it's hasn't come out yet?" And when they reply no, I'll say, "Oh, well I guess it's still cooking then." I've only done that twice, once to some friends that came in and once to some people who walked in the door being very rude.

Man, I could go on for days venting about my server frustrations. LOL

Like some of us I have work as a waiter time to time, the tip is your pay.
For the rest of you that have never worked in the food service world, do you know that a waiter make less than min wage, last time i was putting my thumb in someone food it was about ~$2.75-3.00/hour, i think it was a 4+ years ago.
I leave a min of %20 and if the service sucked i will leave %10.
Also the bigest thing i hated were people that would tip on the grande total when there was some discount like 2for1 or ?% off. When you get a discount or some thing comped, tip on the subtotal...

I agree whole heartedly..Also, what really chaps my ass is the fact that most people have no clue that when they leave a server a tip, they are not just tipping the server. The server has to tip out to the bartender, busboys, foodrunners, wine steward, etc.....
