Default Using my curve as my laptops wireless adaptor?

Please Login to Remove!

I have tried some basic searches, but not found an answer yet.

While i am re-downloading the desktop manager for my new laptop I am trying to find out if i can only use it for EDGE/GPRS or if I can use the connection from home as a wireless adaptor for my laptop.. i have the usb cable to my curve, and the curve happily connects to my home broadband wirelessly..

so in theory i see no reason my laptop should not be able to access the wireless network via the blackberry..
has this worked for anyone if so whats the best way to do this and setup the software? I may occasionally use the gprs for data out of home, but im mostly interested in getting this wifi working as my pcmcia wireless adaptor is playing up :(

It can be done through the BlackBerry's bluetooth connection. It's called tethering, or using a BlackBerry as a modem. Here's the FAQ on it:
Using BlackBerry As Modem - BlackBerryFAQ
If you scope out the Bluetooth sub-forum you will find stuff on this as well.

Yeah, do it over bluetooth. Downside is that it drains battery quickly and, at least for me, is noticeably slower than using it with usb cable.

Either im missing an important bit of text, or you've misread mine, but all the information i can find there is about using the blackberry as a modem, I want to use it as a wireless adaptor.

IE while sat at home and my ADSL wireless router connected to my broadband.. I want to be able to plug my blackberry into my laptop with the blackberry feeding my laptop my broadband connection as I currently cannot get a pcmcia wifi card to work.

I have tried to setup the modem side of it as a side-project, but cannot get it working anyway :( i cannot find the correct username/password combination for orangeUK

There is no protocol for using the BB as an adapter over WiFi.

I have the DATA Everything plan with Sprint. I had been using the "Sprint Smart View", found on Sprint.com, to use my Curve as a modem. Then I updated my SSV to the latest version - and I could no longer use the Curve as a modem - I checked with Sprint and they said that it is not possible to do so, since I have the Data Everything plan; the SSV was to work with voice only plans. (?????) Okay - well, I uninstalled the "latest" SSV and reinstalled the "old" SSV and I am back to using my Curve as a modem. Love it!

I don't believe that there is any way you can use your BB as a "modem" over WiFi. RIM just never bothered to build that functionality into the phone. I also don't believe you can do it on a WinMo device either.

A while back, I had a similar issue where something was hoaked up on one of my laptops' PCMCIA adapter and it would not "read" any cards, including my 802.11x WiFi card. I ended up getting a LinkSys USB 802.11g WiFi adapter. It worked like a charm, was recognized once drivers were installed in Windows XP, and instantly by Ubuntu (Atheros driver).

HTH.
