Default I'm pretty much screwed aren't I? (Screen not displaying)

I love my BlackBerry.

I love it so much, that when I was at a comedy club last night, I did not want to leave it at the table when I went to the bathroom. Even though it was a table full of my friends, and next to my boyfriend, I took it with me for fear that one of them may spill a drink on it.

I put it ontop of the toilet dispenser, and some drunk girl falls into the wall on the otherside and it got launched

It hit the ground, and I caught it on the bounce. Just one bounce was enough though. The phone works perfectly fine, except the screen does not display.

I have done battery pulls in desperation that it will fix it, but nothing changes. My alarm still went off this morning, as usual. Just cannot see anything to turn it off.

Am I right about being screwed?

(I've gone through my options, and I might end up with an iphone because I can't afford a new phone )

Well, if everything seems to be working it might just be the screen. I think there are some folks who do those repairs -- or at least sell the screens.

That sucks though, doesn't it.

Because Rogers owns Fido, there is a intrabrand migration policy where you do not have to pay the full cancellation fee if you meet certian requirements.

Fido only has the 8100 and the Iphone for smartphones, and I did not want an 8100.

I called and spoke with them about it, and they are actually sending me another model because of the fact I've been with them for three years and this is the first phone upgrade I had gotten in that time, as well as good payment history, and my grandmas home phone has been with them way longer as well.

In the end it has worked out, but what they are doing for me is an exception and I am truly grateful. I am paying for some cost of the phone, and that is okay with me.

*phew* Now I have to go a couple days until the phone gets sent to me (put my sim in my old Sony Ericsson), in the meantime I may look at options to get the screen on mine fixed to see if I can keep it as a spare.

If you have not already done so I would do a backup. You should be able to do it even if the screen is dead.

tsac- I back it up weekly just incase something like this happens, I'm just sad I'm going to lose that sweet vanity pin I had.

ez- Do they generally do this kind of repair? It would be nice to get it fixed, then I will have a spare for backup.

Not sure what the policy is in the great white north but Verizon will replace your phone for $ 50 in the states with some restrictions. You have to turn in your old phone and this does not include a new battery. Have you checked to see if there is a similiar program?

If it's physical damage it isn't covered under my warranty, which is what I'm sure they will label this as. It did fall on the floor. When I called I was perfectly honest, because I work for a telecommunications company I know the tricks to get what you want, but I did not want to be that person who abuses the system.

They ended up offering me a new phone as a goodwill gesture, probably because I wasn't screaming at them and I was polite about the fact that it was my fault. It was an exception on their part and I am grateful. I often get calls from customers who damage their phones and expect us to give them new ones because they are "such great customers" (who's payments are late, who often call in demanding discounts, etc etc...)

I want to look into horizon wireless taking a look at my phone though, it would be great to salvage it for backup use. I truly believe it is just a screen issue as my alarm went off this morning, I just could not see anything to turn it off. I did a battery pull to shut it up. The screen is white with a black line running down it to the side a bit, like all the colours got slammed into a thin line.

Before you call it dead, I would take ezrunner's advise. Do a search on the forum for Disassembly steps even if it's another model. It may be as simple as the PCB board is loose. Also replacements are available and using those instructions you can do a self repair. I had a 8700 that I dropped and all it was is the connection.

Go for it !!!

I know you're getting a replacement, but I believe EZ is right on the money. The LCD connection probably got jarred loose on impact. I've replaced a few BB screens before and it is very simple.

I'll have to look more into this, I worry about doing it myself because it's such an expensive piece of equipment. If I feel I'm not capable I may just contact Horizon Wireless.

For now I need to google some more information on this, as well as get the right kinds of screwdrivers for my phone.

I've decided I'm not comfortable taking apart my device, which saddens me as when I was younger I often took apart my computer to make changes or upgrade it.

I guess I have no balls

Got my new device today UPS is pretty fast, just restored from my most recent back up and everything is good Cannot find my themes though, will have to do some hunting.
