Dear Friends,

I have trouble installing the Yahoo Messenger on my Blackberry 7730. I know some of you may immediately react saying that I should thoroughly search on this site first - the answer may be there. I assure you all that I have done a search and gone through the numerous postings - unfortunately, they do not reply to my query though I am getting a feeling that this problem is identified and perhaps presently not capable of being solved.

I am from India and have a Blackberry from the local service-provider - Airtel. I have seen from Blackberry.com that the yahoo messenger is provided but I have to choose a particular service-provider - but which are all outside India. I note that my device is supported. I tried still to install it but there was "an unspecified error message".

Finally, I was suggested that I should download the messenger first to my PC and then use the Blackberry Desktop to transfer it to my Blackberry. However, I do not know where to look for the the messenger. I have also searched rimroad.com.

Incidentally, I had downloaded easily the blackberry messenger and could use it comfortably. However, now Blackberry has replaced it with the Yahoo messenger which cannot be downloaded by me.

Any ideas or suggestions?! Thanks to all you guys in advance.

The installer for Yahoo is intelligent, in that it determines which device and carrier you are using. Further, Messenger requires a service book--which can only be sent by your carrier's network.

So unfortunately you cannot install this program unless your device and carrier is supported. Other carriers will come soon...

I had this Yahoo IM installed on my BB 7730 and it did not work because the Yahoo IM that was released from RIM was only for 7290 model and it only works on that model.
Again if still you want to get it working then you can install the program and then call your provider and ask them to enable the Yahoo IM in such a way that all the each message is billed like an SMS. this is the only possible solution that is possible on 7730 model.
Down the road you will run into the problem where your SIM card will become full and you will get this pop up mesg every 30 seconds to delete some messages from SIM. And so far I know that the only way to delete SMS from a SIM card is to put the SIM in regular phone and then delete the messages.

In a nutshell, it will be costly to send each SMS thru Yahoo and even your provider may not support it.


But if you jump to 7290 model then this Yahoo IM is free and there is no charge for this because this is part of your data plan and no messages will be saved on your SIM so no need to delete anything.

That was one of the reason why I switched the 7730-->7290 and now I am on 8700C juct trying it to see it it is worth.
