Gas Mileage Tracking Software
Please Login to Remove!
Does anyone know of any aftermarket software available to keep track of gas mileage and mpg ? With the gas prices on the rise, it might help to know if my truck is getting its optimum gas mileage. I've tried searching the forum, but didn't find anything helpful.
FYI: Gas prices here in Norfolk, VA: Low end: $2.59, High end: $3.25

Yeah, that's the option I'm doing now. Just looking for something better.

While Telenav is not the software that does what you want specifically, it can however, as a real time GPS unit, tell you the closest gas stations, sort by brand or by PRICE or both. Most GPS units are great but I haven't found one that carries the feature of telling you gas prices. In terms of how accurate this information is, I am not sure. Hopefully someone here can tell you that.
Telenav not only gives you directions to it but also tells you how far it is from your relative position (or any position you key in) and the full address and phone number hwich you can dial straight from it. There's a one month free trial if and I think it's something worth looking into for your needs.

what all would you want it to do?
I'm working on exactly this right now and may need some beta testers soon.
Aside from the basics, what all would you want an application like this to do for you?

Well please put me down for a BETA slot, I have a Mom who is obsessed with the Gas Mileage and Prices. When I showed her the Blackberry/Telenav Gas Price Finder, what a mistake. Everyday I have to do the "rundown" (Glad she likes it)
Anyway, features:
1. Well one thing will be Multiple Car Profiles.
2. Store Regular Gas Station Info so Your favortite Station is 1 and then second favorite is 2 etc
3. Ability to easily EMAIL the info out, so say at the end of the week you can send the info to your Desktop via EMAIL
4. Depending on how far you want to go with this app, a maintenance section, if nothing more then a place to put Date of Oll Change and Mileage. Maybe a reminder preprogrammed at 3,000, 6,000 and 9,000 miles, that could be selected and triggered by the mileage you will be inputting anyway, to compute the gas mileage. Same for Tire purchases, brakes etc, although alert not needed for other maintenance items.
5. A place to input Price Per Gallon would be nice and then have it compute a $ Amount Per Mile it costs to drive. Interesting and depressing, all in one.

...Oh, and to stay on topic, no there is no such software I am aware of.
Won't it be nice the day cars have wireless functionality and a standard that allows you to obtain and read data from them, such as fuel effenciency or even brake pad wear, oil change alerts automatically ...oh wait, buy the time that happens we won't be using oil... we would have ran out
Has anyone considered the Ford Escape Hybrid? of course for the fraction of the price you could get something far cheaper because it will probably take 10 years to begin seeing the savings in gas.

tell me more--I hadn't thought to store any gas station info. How would it be used?

already on the list in a small way; I was going to show miles/km til next service for each vehicle; I can see expanding this in a future release.

already on the list. The screen for "Add Fuel" takes the total cost and the quantity as inputs. Various reports will come from that. Or did you mean a distinct calculator type thing for that formula?
thanks for your input on this

units of measure for Canadian users
Help educate an East Tennessee boy on metric units of measure related to fuel consumption.
- is L/100km the right thing to use instead of mpg? or kpl? or something else?
- how likely are you going to be needing an "add fuel" input screen that takes odometer readings in km but fuel in gallons (because maybe you're in the US and buying gas and putting it inside a metric style automobile)?
- anything else I should be on the lookout for?
- I've asked my Irish-Canadian bro-in-law about these things but he's old enough that he's not really made the emotional switch to metric yet (and may never)
thanks

I would totally be interested in the Mileage software. Right now all my receipts and clipped to my visor.
And I second multiple car profiles.

I always thought there were 3.78 liters in a gallon, which would come out to $4.72 Canadian or $3.97 US per gallon. It could be worse though.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7520/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)
I was thinking some type of note feature where you could record data at the fillup like where you bought the gas and note different conditions like extra city driving that might have caused an abrupt change. It would also be great to have a milage calc with an e-mail or cut/paste function so I could copy the info over to exp report
